The experience begins with a ride through a historic district, before we reach a tranquil shrine setting, which we explore on foot. From there, we cycle through charming neighborhoods and peaceful wooded areas, gradually making our way to a serene Zen location—a hidden gem far from the usual tourist spots. Along the way, we stop for a delicious traditional snack at a family-run shop with a history that stretches back over a thousand years. Later, we ride through a quiet temple complex to visit one of my favourite rock gardens in the area. Afterwards, we take our time riding through calm backstreets as we make our way back to the starting point. The tour covers approximately 14 km and lasts around 3 hours and 45 minutes. It’s designed to be a perfect balance of riding and walking, offering a truly unique journey through parts of the city rarely seen by visitors.

We were a group of four adults and ended up leaving this tour early — we actually pretended one of us had back pain because it felt like the only polite way to get out of it. Unfortunately, the guide spoke to the group like we were small children the entire time. Much of the commentary was extremely obvious and delivered in a very condescending, “mansplaining” style. At one point he repeatedly explained how to safely cross the street — something most adult travelers are perfectly capable of figuring out on their own. The tour felt less like a guided experience and more like a stage for the guide’s personal storytelling and attention rather than focusing on the places we were visiting or creating an enjoyable experience for the group. Kyoto is an incredible city and there are plenty of wonderful tours available, but this one just wasn’t for us

My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with Yuuta. Hope I have spelt this correctly!! He was very accommodating to our needs, very knowledgeable of the history of Kyoto including temples, the hidden geisha area and more. We learn't a great deal and found his storytelling very engaging. It was very very cold when we took the tour in Feb, and my husband didn't wear enough layers or a beanie. Certainly recommend this tour and wearing appropriate clothing to keep warm. Helmet, water and a great ebike included in the tour, plus a green tea and snack pit stop, which was very welcomed to warm up. Really enjoyed it.

Yuta led us on the tour of a lifetime. It was the highlight of our two weeks in Japan. He is so kind, thoughtful, and full of knowledge. We got to escape the crowds and see the hidden Geisha district, incredible temples, meditate in a Buddhist monastery, visit a 1,000 year old cafe and bike through beautiful hidden nature paths. He explained so much history and wisdom with us all and really went above and beyond. We will never forget it. Thank you Yuta. Arigato Gozaimasu

Michael was AMAZING!!! He’s a former history teacher who moved from the Midwest 20 years ago to each English. He was funny, well informed and super well connected. He had great tricks to remember things and we all learned so much…even my kids found it interesting! He made us an amazing dinner reservation afterwards too!

We had a great 3.5 hour bike tour with Yuta. He was very friendly and informative on all the shrines and temples. Included a stop at one of the old tea house and had a nice green teas with traditional sweets. Arranged a nice quiet visit to Shimagamo Shrine at the end of the tournament and had a lovely mediation session. Highly recommend this tour.
