What To Expect
Hawa Mahal - The Palace of Breeze
Hawa Mahal, is an iconic architectural marvel and a prominent tourist attraction in the city. Also known as the "Palace of Winds," it was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the ruler of Jaipur. The mahal was designed by Lal Chand Usta, an architect in the court of the Maharaja. Designed in the Rajput architectural style and is made of pink sandstone. The purpose behind the construction of Hawa Mahal was to provide a grandstand view for the royal ladies of the court to observe everyday life and processions on the bustling streets below without being seen themselves, as they followed strict purdah (veiling) customs. The design of Hawa Mahal is inspired by the crown of Lord Krishna. The windows not only allowed a gentle flow of air through the palace, keeping it cool during the scorching summer months, the interior of the Hawa Mahal is relatively simple, with a series of chambers and passages that were once used by the royal family.
Panna Meena ka Kund
"Panna Meena Ka Kund" is a stepwell also known as "baoris" or "vavs," are ancient water storage systems that were not only utilitarian but also served as gathering places and architectural wonders. Architecture: The stepwell is known for its unique and symmetrical architectural design. It consists of crisscrossing staircases that descend several levels into the ground, creating an elaborate pattern of steps. Water Source: Panna Meena Ka Kund was primarily built to harvest and store rainwater. During the monsoon season, the stepwell would collect rainwater, providing a reliable source of water for the local community throughout the year. Cultural significance: Panna Meena Ka Kund not only served as a water storage facility but also acted as a social gathering place for the local community. In the past, women would gather here to collect water and engage in social interactions.

5.00Another great tour by Vivek with driver Manish! I'd done a street food tour with Vivek before which was so good, I knew he'd be the best person to take me around the sights of Jaipur. He was communicative and customised the itinerary to my interests. As a local Vivek is full of knowledge, and also a good storyteller. He shared history and fun facts to bring each place to life. He also has a deep understanding of arts and craftsmanship in Jaipur architecture and design, so a good guide for anyone into arts and culture. The day was well-organised, with lots of variety and enough time to spend in each place. Having a car meant we could see more places in a day without getting tired. Vivek is also a photographer so he was understanding of time to take photos and had lots of good tips for shooting angles! High recommended for anyone who's a keen photographer and also wants to capture the beauty of Jaipur. All in all a fun and memorable day!

Our guide led us through the magnificent City Palace, where we marveled at its stunning architecture and rich history. The Palace of Winds (Hawa Mahal) was another highlight, with its intricate façade and unique design that allowed royal women to observe the street below without being seen. 5.00Vivek was my guide for a custom tour the full day in Jaipur. He is very knowledgeable, affable, and more than happy to take pictures. We visited Hawa Mahal (where a man told me I was lucky to have Vivek as my guide), Jantar Mantar (my favorite), City Palace, and Amber Fort. I had more potential places in the itinerary, but that was enough for me, so we had a drink at a rooftop bar, where he pointed out the kites being flown, nearby, and I got to watch kite fighting. I had only heard about it in The Kite Runner, so it was fun to see, in person. He made recommendations for dinner and gave me advice about my next stop. I would definitely recommend Vivek as your guide!
