Keiservarden is a real classic for the people of Bodø. This mountain plateau is Bodø’s most visited hiking destination and is renowned for the wonderful views of the city, sea and the Lofoten islands. Keiservarden is one of the best places to experience the Midnight Sun.
Keiservarden is the number one hiking destination for many in Bodø. Keiservarden is 366 m above sea level and climbing to the summit is not a very demanding hike.
The view from the top – you might be able to see the silhouette of the Lofoten, the islands of Værøy and Røst (the two outermost islands in Lofoten). To the east you will see the many peaks of the spectacular Børvasstind mountain range and the mountains near the Swedish border.
Stone stairs – several alternative routes lead to the top. In 2016 Sherpas from Nepal built stone stairs along our route, which saves the terrain from wear.

If weather permits, Keiservarden is a very good spot to see both the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun. Not at the same time of course. Stone stairs – several alternative routes lead to the top. In 2016 Sherpas from Nepal built stone stairs along our route, which saves the terrain from wear. This also makes the hike both easier and more fun. Keiservarden and the path are seldom deserted, so be prepared to meet the locals from Bodø on your way. Keiservarden (The Emperor`s Cairn) is named after German Emperor Wilhelm II, who visited the hilltop in 1891 on one of his visits to Norway. On the top there is both a plaque in honor of Wilhelm IIs climb and a board telling about it.

Great hike up the hill via a rocky path. Went back down via gravel road. The day was perfect and the scenery was astounding.

It was a great time, fun hike to do and very accessible. Ivar is an absolutely great guide, volunteered so much information and even tips & recommendations on what to do in the city itself besides fun facts on the region and surroundings, he was very patient as well as flexible, I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it.

Ivar is an experienced guide and his trip was well organized. He contacted me one day before the trip to check out if I got the proper equipments (and he never hesitated to provide suitable clothing and equipments such as woolen socks if needed ). I had originally signed up for a trip to Keisersverdan but the weather was too cold and windy, so Ivar changed the plan immediately ,and I got a nice trip to the a forest and frozen lake with snowshoeing, plus some photo taking around beaches and villages around Bodo instead. Hot drinks and snacks were served in the middle to keep everyone warm and energized. Thr activities were fun and we had a nice chat as Ivar drove us around Even a beginner like me could enjoy to day trip to the fullest. Definitely recommended fot travelers to Bodo

I had a lovely winter hike with my guide Ivar. He was very informative about the area. The view from the top was spectacular. I am looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the area when I am more time.

I did this hike in Oct 2019 with guide Kaja. It was an easy and beautiful walk up the hill. The views of the islands and snow-capped mountains were splendid. We took a rest at a hut at the top of the hill and Kaja brought out some tea and chocolates for us. All in all, wonderful experience and I would highly recommended this if you have half a day to spare in Bodo!

The Nordland Turselskap team were friendly, helpful and went the extra mile to provide a good experience both with the trip that I paid for and with additional local tips and information throughout my weekend stay which were purely a courtesy but very welcome. Thank you!

Climbed the mountain with the guide. It was just the two of us. This made it pleasant for us, because you can follow your own pace. The guide knows a lot and will also point you to places not to be missed after the hike! Never had such a good guide, was top! And the view breathtaking! Something not to be missed.

To anyone who thinks about doing this hike, I can definitely recommend it to you! Ivar, our guide, was very flexible and so my friend and I were able to get a "private" tour because it was only the two of us that day. The weather started out a little rainy, and I was worried we were not going to see much on the mountain top, but Ivar promised us that the weather would clear up, otherwise he would have chosen a different route. And what can I say - it did! There was a nice view, and the hike was easy to complete, even for a beginner like me, and he let us choose the speed and when, where, and how long we wanted to stop to take pictures on our way up. He even recommended other things for us to do and followed up with us to make sure, that we have a great experience on our vacation and even suggested spots to visit in Norway for another vacation. All in all, you can't ask for more from your tour guide!
