Atomic Bomb Dome
The A-Bomb Dome, or Genbaku Dome, is one of Hiroshima's most iconic and haunting landmarks, preserved as a stark reminder of the devastating atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. Originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, this structure was one of the few buildings near the epicenter to survive the blast, though it was severely damaged. Its skeletal remains have since been carefully maintained as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing the resilience of Hiroshima’s people and their commitment to peace. Visitors to the A-Bomb Dome can walk around the structure, observing its preserved state, and reflect on the immense destruction caused by nuclear weapons. It stands as a powerful testament to the horrors of war and a call to action for global nuclear disarmament, offering a profound and sobering experience for all who visit.

Vito promised to pick us up at the cruise port and at the last minute change these arrangements so we had to taxi into town. We were also told at the last minute that the tour could not include both attractions in Hiroshima and that was what had been confirmed when we paid for the tour. This was not the fault of our guide John, who was quite knowledgeable, but I was anticipating a Japanese guide

Kazuko was fun, informative, and energetic! Long day in the sun but well worth it! She took some great pictures of us too.

We had the absolute pleasure of touring Hiroshima with Kazuko as our guide, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. From the very beginning, she was warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly thoughtful. Our tour began with a visit to the stunning Miyajima Island, where we saw the famous floating torii gate and enjoyed the company of the island's free-roaming deer. Kazuko provided insightful historical and cultural context throughout, making the experience even more enriching. Upon returning to Hiroshima, she recommended we try local okonomiyaki — and we're so glad we did! It was delicious and an absolute highlight of our trip, thanks to her suggestion. Unfortunately, while on our way to visit Hiroshima Castle, my mother had a fall and needed to go to the hospital. Kazuko immediately sprang into action, finding the nearest medical facility and accompanying us the entire time. She stayed by our side, calmly translating between Japanese and English and ensuring my mother was well taken care of. Her kindness and support during such a stressful moment meant the world to us. Despite the unexpected interruption, Kazuko graciously continued the tour once things settled. She guided us through the Peace Park and concluded the day at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, where her thoughtful explanations helped us truly connect with the history. Kazuko went above and beyond in every way — not just as a guide, but as a compassionate and generous person. We are so grateful for her care and professionalism, and we would recommend her to anyone visiting Hiroshima without hesitation.

John and Kazuko were very lovely, knowledgeable guides. Given John's mobility issues, the morning progress was slower than we expected. He therefore recommended the fast ferry from Itsukushima to the Peace Park to fit everything in, although he did warn us that we would be unlikely to make the Garden or the Castle and we did not. Unfortunately, having agreed to the fast ferry option, he informed us that the cost of the ride was not an inclusion, moreover we were required to pay his ticket. We were unaware. This is not stated under "Inclusions and Exclusions" in the "Know Before You Go" section, and if company policy is for the guide's fast ferry fare to be paid by the guests, we believe the guests should know beforehand, not at the last minute when under pressure to complete the day. Otherwise, John and Kuzko are the consummate double act! One provides deep background, the other more recent foreground based on deep personal family experience. There could be no better guiding composition!
