Atomic Bomb Dome
The A-Bomb Dome, or Genbaku Dome, is one of Hiroshima's most iconic and haunting landmarks, preserved as a stark reminder of the devastating atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. Originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, this structure was one of the few buildings near the epicenter to survive the blast, though it was severely damaged. Its skeletal remains have since been carefully maintained as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing the resilience of Hiroshima’s people and their commitment to peace. Visitors to the A-Bomb Dome can walk around the structure, observing its preserved state, and reflect on the immense destruction caused by nuclear weapons. It stands as a powerful testament to the horrors of war and a call to action for global nuclear disarmament, offering a profound and sobering experience for all who visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Miyajima and Hiroshima. Our guides, Kazuko and John, were knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful! Kazuko guided us on public transportation to Miyajima first, which was good, as there were few people there, relatively. The shrine, history, and the tame deer were all enjoyed. We also tried the fried maple cakes the island is famous for. Very yummy! Afterwards we took public transportation back to Hiroshima to explore the Shukkeien gardens—beautiful! And so peaceful. Then on to the Hiroshima castle. John is a fountain of knowledge about Japanese history, which was helpful and greatly enjoyed. From there we walked to the peace park to see some of the important spots there. We greatly appreciated the guides’s flexibilty in designing an itinerary that included what was important to us, as well as to include some of their suggestions. We even made stops for some tasty local snacks. Be prepared to do lots of walking on this tour, and know it will be worth it!

Had a fantastic 8-hour tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima! Our guide, Gajender, was knowledgeable, very friendly, and shared powerful stories at the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Miyajima was stunning — the floating torii gate and Itsukushima Shrine were definite highlights. Everything was well-organized and ran smoothly. Highly recommend this tour if you want to experience both history and natural beauty in one day!

Our tour with John was such an interesting and informative journey! He is so knowledgeable about many things about Hiroshima, the war, literature, travel, history, politics and much much more. He made our tour exactly catering to what we wanted as well as made adjustments and added on moments that we didn’t know to ask for!! Would absolutely take another tour with him and would recommend!!

Gajender was an incredible tour guide and made us feel very comfortable the whole day. His knowledge and anecdotes were second to none and we fitted in so much in such a short space of time. We will remember this tour fondly and i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. If you are lucky enough to have Gajender as your guide it will be an even better experience!
