Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is one of the most prominent features of the city. Even visitors not looking for it will likely stumble upon the large park of over 120,000 square meters. Its trees, lawns, and walking paths are in stark contrast to the surrounding downtown area. Before the bomb, the area of what is now the Peace Park was the political and commercial heart of the city. For this reason, it was chosen as the pilot's target. Four years to the day after the bomb was dropped, it was decided that the area would not be redeveloped but instead devoted to peace memorial facilities. Admission Fee: ¥200

This tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima was one of the best tours start to finish that we have ever experienced. We booked this as a day trip from Osaka via the Shinkansen months in advance of our visit and our tour guide, Emmy, was exceptional in communicating with us prior to, during, and after the trip. She offered recommendations on which train to book, met us at the station with a “welcome” sign, set the itinerary for the day including transportation on local trains and ferries, and even located and tried a fantastic vegan restaurant for my wife before we arrived so we could enjoy a dinner prior to returning to Osaka. Emmy is an amazing and caring individual!! In addition, the beauty of these incredible memorials, landscapes, and historical sites was a testament to life after devastation. Having grown up in Hiroshima with family roots dating several generations, Emmy had extensive knowledge of the city and events written into history. This memorable private tour allowed us a flexible schedule and it was an honor meeting and spending the entire day getting to know Emmy while we visited. Thank you so much for everything, Emmy!! We miss Japan, your kindness, and your beautiful city already.

Very moving. A fantastic tour guide who made sure we were a head of the crowds. She obtained advanced tickets to the shrine and the temple. Lunch was at a local restaurant without tourist. Mari was a 10 on a scale of 5. As a local she knew the history of Hiroshima inside and out. Her English was impeccable. Just a fantastic day. Highly recommend her.

We had an excellent Hiroshima full-day tour experience with our tour guide Eiji. He was very professional, respectful, efficient, punctual, and pleasant to work with. He lives in Yokohama and is very familiar with it, and his English is excellent. We got to see so many sites and do so many things which we wouldn’t have been able to do ourselves. If you plan to visit Yokohama we’d highly recommend him. He also guides tours in cities adjacent to Hiroshima.

Together with guide Hayato we put together a really great day in Hiroshima. Not only memorial park, Shukkeien Garden, castle. As art lovers we visited murals on the walls of detention center; musem of art with paintings of Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Degas, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Munch, Matisse, Picasso, Chagall; Orizuru Tower with a great view of the dome and memorial park from above and 2045 Nine Hopes / Wall Art Project. Guide showed us how to fold orizuru (折鶴) — paper crane, which is a worldwide symbol of peace and hope and leave it near the Children’s Peace Monument. We also tried okonomiyaki - traditional regional dish.
