Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is one of the most prominent features of the city. Even visitors not looking for it will likely stumble upon the large park of over 120,000 square meters. Its trees, lawns, and walking paths are in stark contrast to the surrounding downtown area. Before the bomb, the area of what is now the Peace Park was the political and commercial heart of the city. For this reason, it was chosen as the pilot's target. Four years to the day after the bomb was dropped, it was decided that the area would not be redeveloped but instead devoted to peace memorial facilities. Admission Fee: ¥200

Our focus when visiting Hiroshima was to learn more about the WWII bombing and visit the sites that have been preserved as part of the city's and Japan's history. Minori did an excellent job leading our tour and explaining the history behind the sites visited which included Peace Memorial Park, Hypocenter, and the Peace Memorial Museum. We also took the ferry to Miyajima Island to see the Great Tori Gate and Itsukushima Shrine. She also selected an excellent restaurant for lunch that highlighted Hiroshima's local flavor. Deeply impactful day.

Our guide Yuji took us to Miyajami Island and the Peace Park and Museum. He had prepared materials that gave a wealth of historical and cultural background to read when in transit and explained everything we were seeing in context. Travel to the two sites was seamless. His bamboo flute performance in the forest in Miyajima was a great addition. I would recommend him unreservedly. Note that there is quite a bit of walking and stairs involved.

We had a wonderful tour with Kyoko and highly recommend her. From the very beginning, her communication before the trip was excellent. She responded quickly, provided clear information, and made it very easy for us to prepare for the tour. During the tour, Kyoko explained everything in a very clear and engaging way, which helped us better understand the places we visited and the local culture. She was also very patient with all of our questions and took the time to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying the experience. She chose a fantastic place for lunch and guided us efficiently to several top spots within the time we had available. The tour felt well organized, relaxed, and very enjoyable. Because of her excellent communication, thoughtful planning, and warm, patient approach, we are very happy to give Kyoko our highest recommendation.

This was a private tour arranged by Japan Guide Agency (JGA). Our guide Minori was wonderful, with deep knowledge and excellent English. She listened to our tour objectives and provided an world class experience which went well beyond the "standard WW2 Peace Park tour". I have visited Hiroshima prior, but she made it magical.

Our guide To was wonderful, he made our time in Hiroshima unforgettable. We received a well thought out itinerary for what to expect for our tour. We did the train in from Kyoto for just a day trip and he met us right on the platform and got us back to the station for our departure that evening. To provided us with great facts about all the sights we visited. My children really enjoyed our tour as well (10, 9, 4) To involved them all throughout the day which was so fun to watch, my two eldest were really moved by the Peace Memorial Museum, it was incredibly impactful. I would absolutely suggest this tour. It was a full day of walking, exploring, and learning. Food was great and the lessons learned are with us forever!

The mix of peaceful, scenic shrines on Miyajima and hustle and bustle of Hiroshima make this a wonderful choice for a full-day your; we were fortunate to have Sei as a tour guide and he was fabulous! Wear your walking shoes because this is a walking and public transportation tour. Traveling on local transportation (trains, ferry, streetcars and buses) makes this a more immersive experience--you will definitely get your steps in, too! If you are lucky enough to get Sei for a guide, don't be fooled by his appearance--he may qualify as a senior citizen but he moves like a man in his 40s! Visiting the site of the atomic bomb blast is a sobering event especially when touring with someone who knows so many survivors. Sei provided a unique insight and was willing to answer any questions candidly and honestly Even though we had some rain during our tour, it didn't dampen Sei's spirit or ours.

We had an incredible experience on our full day tour of Hiroshima & Miyajima! It has been a highlight of our Japan holiday. Our guide Yuji was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. He planned a carefully curated itinerary that was perfect for us. We explored the stunning temples and Buddhist gardens, learning about the spiritual and historical significance of this area. We stopped for a delicious lunch of okonomiyaki, then continued on to the Peace Memorial Museum, Cenotaph, Children's Peace Monument and Atomic Bomb Dome. This was an extremely moving experience, made even more meaningful by sharing it with a local guide. Thank you, Yuji, for giving us such a memorable day. Bek and Noel
