Historic Jeddah Trip Thank You Hatim Honestly, I would book this Tour just to have the joy of meeting Hatim Shaheen. And then there is Al Balad. All you need to know about Al Balad is that it is an absolute MUST if you are visiting Jeddah. What does a bored retired aviation engineer do? Start his own Tour company providing tours in Jeddah and Saudi Arabia generally! That alone will tell you a lot about Hatim. He is also a warm, generous man willing to share personal and family experiences to give his foreign guests a better insight into Saudi people and culture. Hatim went above and beyond to ensure I had an enjoyable few final hours in Saudi following the Tour - and wanted nothing in return except me having an enjoyable experience. Rare hospitality in this modern ‘me me me’ world. Notes: 1. This is a morning Tour - so before the shops and attractions open (around 4PM, I believe). It is well worth experiencing Al Balad during the day (when quite empty) and at night when it is lively - as I did. The morning Tour is a perfect option for learning about Al Balad without the crowds. 2. This Tour is very reasonably priced - given the going rate for Tours in Jeddah, Oman and much of the Middle East generally. 3. Plus this Tour offers the option of free / included pick up and drop off - which many / most don’t and I find valuable especially if you are a solo traveller and / or new to Jeddah. 4. For those seeking a tour in English, Hatim speaks perfect, clear English - as he was tertiary educated in the USA. Bottom Line: I’ve been scratching my head as to why this Tour does not appear to have been well supported 🧐
