Hurulu Eco Park
Hurulu Forest Reserve has been a Biosphere reserve since 1977. The average temperature sways between 27 and 28°C. The Hurulu Eco Park is a section of the Hurulu Forest Reserve. The park hosts a surprisingly large amount of wildlife, including some which are endangered; such as the Sri Lankan elephant, Indian Star Tortoise, Sri Lankan Jungle fowl, and the Rusty-Spotted Cat. Though you probably won’t see all of this endangered wildlife, it’s quite possible that you may catch sight of at least some of them. The Sri Lankan elephants are a very high possibility with their migratory habits. Elephants that have been translocated to over 100 km away return to the Hurulu Reserve, that they consider home, periodically. If you are on the evening safari you have an even higher chance catching sight of the famed giants of Sri Lanka. They can be seen feeding or even taking a bath.

We did the 3 hour safari at Huluru. We saw loads of Elephants, birds, buffalo and deer. The walk up to and view from the observation tower was nice to stretch our legs and take in the park. The drivers take you really close to the animals but are also respectful of their space. It’s a bumpy ride but having the open roof makes it easy to get some great photos. Recommend taking a 100-400mm lens for this trip, sunscreen, water and a big shady hat.
