There is no experience more authentically Icelandic than hiking through the surreal landscapes of the highlands followed by a relaxing soak in a geothermal pool.
The Canyon Baths
The Húsafell locals who undertook the Canyon Baths project went to great lengths to keep the entire structure as environmentally unobtrusive, sustainable and true to the area’s heritage as possible. Choose from two geothermal pools of varying temperatures, 30-41°C (86-105°F), plus a cold-water spring at 10°C (50°F), each with a spectacular view of the surrounding canyon, mountains and glaciers.
Led by a knowledgeable local guide in English, this year-round tour begins with a short ride from the Húsafell Activity Centre to the trailhead in the remote Icelandic Highlands. On this 2-hour tour we enjoy a relaxed walk among natural wonders not found in many guidebooks, including the spectacular two-tiered waterfall Langifoss.

On this 2-hour tour we enjoy a relaxed walk among natural wonders not found in many guidebooks, including the spectacular two-tiered waterfall Langifoss. We’ll also learn about Iceland’s renewable energy practices, cross an icy stream of glacial meltwater and see the site to Okjökull, Iceland’s first glacier claimed by climate change. Note that the route can change due to unforeseen weather circumstances such as snow, ice, mud or water. The highlight of our excursion is a serene soak in the Húsafell Canyon Baths, a surreal hot spring paradise that has to be seen to be believed. Enjoy half an hour of relaxing, recharging and breathing in the pure Icelandic air before heading back to Hotel Húsafell.

One of our favourite geothermal baths we visited in Iceland. We met our friendly guide at the hotel and we made the 15 min drive to the private Canyon Baths. There are 60 or so steps down to the baths. The landscape surrounding the baths is very, very private! So peaceful and quiet. We were fortunate to have the entire space to ourselves as we were the last tour of the day. The dressing rooms were clean, dry and warm. Our guide checked in on us a couple of times and served us a couple of beverages along the way. The admission fee was appropriate for this visit. We stayed for approximately 90 min. +++ Experience. Enjoy Iceland!

What a relaxing trip this was. Just my wife and I. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history and geology of the area. The hike was actually very short so we had a lot of time to spend in the hot pools. Really enjoyed it.

Incredible location. Guide was fantastic. We went twice in one week. The weather can be unpredictable, but if you’re blessed with sunshine it’s even more magical.

Beautiful pools nestling in a great landscape! We enjoyed every minute there on 1 st of June. The changing rooms are designed with great attention to detail and shower gel etc. is banned for the protection of the environment. Our guide was fantastic (unfortunately we forgot his name). Very entertaining and able to share lots of information about the area and Iceland. When he also shared a poem in Icelandic with us, we were very enthusiastic about this beautiful language that almost sounds like Lord of the Rings! To summarise: we would book it again in a heartbeat.

Anna, our guide, was exceptional—eloquent, deeply knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing this remarkable experience. Her insights enriched our visit and added depth to an already awe-inspiring setting. Soaking in the crystal-clear glacial waters, naturally heated by geothermal energy, amidst such stunning surroundings was nothing short of magical. The tranquility of the canyon paired with the soothing warmth of the baths made for a truly rejuvenating experience. Guests can enjoy drinks from the bar while relaxing in the pools—a thoughtful touch that enhances the overall ambiance. The facilities, including the changing rooms, were impeccably maintained. Not a single piece of litter was in sight, and the entire site felt pristine—almost as if we were its very first visitors (even though we knew we were not). It’s evident that great care and respect have gone into preserving the natural beauty of the area, maintaining it in harmony with the landscape. I could have easily spent days at the Húsafell Canyon Baths. Without hesitation, I give this experience a 10/10—highly recommended to anyone seeking peace, beauty, and authentic connection to Iceland’s natural wonders.
