Conquer the Old Kemi historical Laitakari island and the Ruined Sawmill village where Kemi people lived and worked before the Kemi city was born over 150 years ago. The guide will teach you the basics of trekking on the ice and you also get to visit the ancient industrial monuments of the now deserted Laitakari island. The icetrek consists of total 2 – 3 km walking on icy sea and snowy island.

What To Expect
We cross the sea ice to the Old Kemi Laitakari island where Kemi city has been born over 150 years ago. The guide teaches you the basics of icetrekking and you also get to visit the historical industrial monuments of the now deserted Laitakari sawmill. The icetrek consists of total 2-3 km walking on unique sea ice and flat terrain.

5.00A fantastic mini adventure to an uninhabited island, walking over the frozen mouth of a river was a first for me. Essi was very knowledgeable about the history of the island, back when it was an important logging industry area. My boys (13 and 16) loved exploring the ruins of the old logging factory and playing on the frozen sea. Thank you Essi 🙏😊

5.00The tour offers great views over Kemi and the Bothnian Bay. We learned a lot about the area and the industrial ruins on Laitakari. Marko is a very pleasant and entertaining guide and we would definitely book a tour with him again.
