With the help of local people you will venture into the local forests and look for mushrooms. Bojan, as an expert mycologist, will help you answer all of your questions you might have about mushrooms. We will learn how we pick them the right way, how we behave in a forest, how we prepare and cook them and even how we can store them. Welcoming you into a home of a local family, you will also get a social and cultural view of the valley.

What To Expect

Bojan and Anja are a father and daughter from Bovec who can tell you many interesting things about mushrooms. Both are experts in determining mushroom, Bojan even holds the highest title at the Mycological Association of Slovenia - a mentor. So when you go to the forest to pick mushrooms, they are definitely the right company. Before you embark on an adventure into the mushroom kingdom of the Bovec forests, you will head to the terrace of Bovec kitch’n to be served a delicious home-made breakfast made from local ingredients - giving you enough energy for a few hours of hiking through the forest as you look for and learn about mushrooms. Return to Bovec kitch’n with a basket of freshly picked edible mushrooms and learn how to clean, prepare and store them. After that, create your own mushroom-based dishes under the watchful eye of the hosts and then taste them. The experience has received local quality certificate Soča Valley Finest and is a part of Slovenia Unique Experiences. In case of bad weather, we’ll reschedule the experience if possible. If not, the experience will be cancelled. You will be notified beforehand.

We had a lovely private tour with Anja and Bojan. Two lovely people with a lot of knowledge about mushrooms and the local culture. They took us to a place in nature you will never come on your own and they did open there home to us. We loved there vision on cooking the local produce: celebrate the natural flavor of the produce. If you like food, are interrested in the local culture and enjoy cooking, then this is a must do! Thanks again for everything, Anja & Bojan. We had an amazing time.

The two are true experts in mushroom identification and excellent hosts to learn a lot about the region. Although the weather conditions were not ideal, we learned about 20 new mushrooms - edible and non-edible. It was wonderful that they shared their knowledge with us and we will be able to use some of it ourselves at home. In addition, the supporting program was decorated with many details.

This was the highlight of our trip to Slovenia. Bojan and Anja's knowledge and hospitality exceeded our expectations. We collected an vast variety of mushrooms and were constantly amazed by their expertise on the subject. Thanks to their local insight, we experienced a truly authentic, educational, and rewarding side of Bovec that we would never have discovered on our own. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a memorable local experience!

We spent the day foraging mushrooms with Anja & Bojan who are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly! A true highlight of my stay in Slovenia, not to mention the gorgeous scenery and the delicious food... we had a dinner money can't buy, quite literally. Unless you go on this tour you won't be able to taste these seasonal, local wild mushrooms anywhere... no restaurant serves them and without guides foraging isn't safe, so don't miss out, DO IT!
