~ A Wish-Granting Authentic Mochi Artisan Experience ~ Grab a giant wooden mallet, shout “Yoisho!”, and strike freshly steamed rice with all your strength as you experience Japan’s traditional mochi pounding. This is not a show. This is not something you simply watch. This is a fully hands-on, authentic experience where you evolve into a true “mochi artisan” with your own hands. You begin by kneading freshly steamed glutinous rice. Then, using a real wooden mallet (kine) and stone mortar (usu), you pound the rice powerfully while shouting “Yoisho!” With every strike, make a wish. After pounding, you cut and shape the mochi yourself. Enjoy tasting 10 different flavors — kinako (roasted soybean powder), matcha, black sugar syrup, caramel nuts, grated radish, and more. Then relax in our reserved 2nd-floor seating area and enjoy your freshly made mochi with tea in comfort. Each strike adds flavor to your journey. Each wish makes the memory deeper. Culture is not something you watch. It is something you experience. At HANBEI, we create that moment together with you.

Our first mochi making experience and it exceeded our expectations! A must do on any visit to Asakusa. The staff are wonderful and enthusiastic. Lots of fun and delicious to eat afterwards. Both sweet and savory toppings.

It was the first time in a while that I had made mochi. It was very exciting. This is the only place in Tokyo where you can make mochi. It was nice to taste various kinds of mochi. It was good to be close to Asakusa station.
