  • Incredible Authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience with Ikuyo – Warm Hospitality, Rich Culture, and Delicious Treats

    ianlB3647SO,,Nov 16, 2025

I’m in Japan on a solo work trip and wanted to immerse myself in a meaningful cultural experience over the weekend. Fortunately, I had the bsolute pleasure of attending Ikuyo’s Japanese Tea Ceremony session last night, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment I stepped into her beautiful home, I felt incredibly welcomed and at ease. Ikuyo’s warm hospitality set the perfect tone for what turned out to be a profoundly enriching experience. Her explanations before and throughout the ceremony were clear, captivating, and full of insight. She skillfully guided me through every step, sharing intriguing stories about the history and cultural importance of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. The experience was not only educational but also profoundly moving. After the ceremony, I felt a serene sense of peace that’s difficult to put into words but was truly uplifting. The wagashi (sweet treats) that Ikuyo personally prepared and served alongside the matcha tea were absolutely delightful. The matcha itself was smooth and rich in flavor, far superior to any I’ve had back in the US. Whether you’re visiting Tokyo alone or with a small group, Ikuyo’s session is an absolute must. It offers a rare and authentic glimpse into Japanese culture that I had never experienced before. I’m already looking forward to returning to Japan with my wife to share this wonderful experience with her. Thank you, Ikuyo, for an unforgettable evening and opening my eyes to the rich history of the Japan Tea Ceremony!

  • Tea Ceremony Course Review

    prouds2025,,Oct 29, 2025

The tea ceremony looked very delicate, and even just by observing, I could tell how much attention to detail it requires, from the way people walk and sit to how they place their hands and handle the utensils. It was my first time experiencing something like this, and I was impressed by the elegance of the ceremony. At first, I tried only the traditional sweets, which were delicious but a bit too sweet for me since I usually don’t eat much sugar. However, when I drank the tea afterward, its bitterness balanced the sweetness perfectly. Then I understood why they are always served together.

Attending this Japanese tea ceremony was a wonderful experience. We were guided through every step of the ceremony with great care and knowledge and I learned so much about the traditions. The sweets served before the tea wäre beautifully handcrafted and almost too pretty to eat. If you're looking for a cultural experience, I highly recommend this.

We had the opportunity to attend the tea ceremony organised by Kono-san, it was a wonderful experience for us. The hosts explained us the history and culture associated with tea cermony, and answered our all questions. We enjoyed the tea and the tasty handmade sweets, and also got our hands on preparing tea ourselves. The tea was flavourful, and overall a very delightful experience which we can only recommend further when one wants to get more insghts into the Japanese culture.

  • Very personalized and welcoming experience!

One of our highlights of our Japan trip! Can recommend 10/10! I did the experience with my girlfriend and we had a great time and it was an easy-going and relaxing atmosphere! It was incredible to see how many different steps you have to know and how precise Ikuyo and her husband worked. They were really knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The sweets were delicious and somehow still different than the sweets we tried before and trust me there we're a lot this trip ;) We also had a lot of fun in trying to make matcha tea. Personally I didn't expect to taste that much of a difference between the matcha we made and the matcha Ikuyo made for us. Somehow hers was more creamy and a little bit stronger in taste in my opinion but I guess that's the difference between the teacher and the "students" :D

A fantastic experience to learn about Japanese Tea Ceremonies. It was a very meaningful experience to be able to see and participate in this traditional procedure. Ikuyo was an excellent host with very clear instructions on how to meet up at her house. She was very accommodating for us westerners who had a hard time sitting on the floor! Great homemade sweets as well!

I had the honor to attend Ikuyo's tea ceremony twice and it was always the highlight of my trip to Japan! It is a truly authentic experience and Ikuyo is a very kind and articulate teacher. We got to learn how to make matcha as well as enjoyed wagashi - Japanese sweets. Both my husband and I shall truly hold this experience dear for the years to come.
