Blagaj tekija
Blagaj will be our first stop, some 15 minutes of drive south-east of Mostar. The famous well of the river Buna located there represents the largest source of karst in Europe. A 200 meters high stone cliff with a cave complex in it is located above the source and it is an unforgettable sight for all visitors. The water comes from a 15 meters wide cave, it is freezing cold and clean and a lot of endemic species of trout found their habitat in it. Next to the source, a 16th century Dervish house – Tekke is still one of the most mystical places as well as one of the most important cultural and historical monuments in all of Bosnia&Herzegovina. An opportunity to have fantastic coffee/tea with a traditional local fig-cake “smokvara” at the base of the spring of magnificent river Buna should not be missed.
The historic urban site of Pocitelj
Počitelj, a hidden jewel of Herzegovina lies on a hillside that makes a kind of amphitheater and overhangs the turquoise Neretva River. This pleasant settlement is located 30 km south of Mostar on the road to the Adriatic coast. Its special Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style blend of which give this town a special dimension, makes it a real gem of architecture. This unique stone town has been inscribed in 2007 on the Unesco World Heritage Tentative List. The fortress was built in the late 14th century upon the order of the famous Bosnian King Tvrtko but Počitelj is mentioned for the first time in writing in 1444 as the seat of the parish. Počitelj is a real, open-air museum and a much cherished place by numerous artists who, in this magical scenery, find inspiration for their works of art. Besides its beautiful oriental architecture and Ottoman feel, Počitelj hosts the longest operating art colony in southeast Europe. Artists from around the world gather here to paint, among other things but importantly, the shiny red pomegranates and figs that grow in abundance on the hills of Pocitelj. Walking around the city feels like taking a step back in time. Here you will see amazing architecture, city walls, mosques, art studios and many more. Definitely have you cameras on standby. There is also a fresh organic fruit market and authentic local art and craft stalls.

We were on a tour to the Mostarska Bijela Gorge with Ćamil and Herzeg Day-Tours. Since high temperatures were expected, we drove as far as possible through the bushes on a very rocky path with the all-terrain vehicle to shorten the distance a bit. Then we had about 2.5 hours of hiking ahead of us, which led us deeper into the valley. We walked in the sun over a riverbed filled with pebbles and then into a magical forest. We passed historic, abandoned walls, the graves of the local inhabitants, and finally reached our destination: the gorge. Breathtaking. Icy cold, ankle-deep water that one walks through into the gorge. Sometimes it’s barely a meter wide. At the end, a waterfall awaits you. Clear water cascades about 8 meters into a basin, where you can sit on a rock to feel the magic of this place. It was a unique experience. Also, the view into the valley we walked through can be enjoyed from a viewpoint that we reached by hiking a bit further.

We did 3 tours with Camil - 2 tour transfers (Sarajevo to Mostar and Mostar to Dubrovnik) as well as the Jewels of Herzegovina tour. We really had a amazing time in Bosnia and can’t speak highly enough of Camil - super responsive, on time, good driver, nothing was too much trouble and he was a font of knowledge about his country. The Jewels tour is a great way of getting out and seeing the countryside plus you see more than you would on the average bus tour. We also enjoyed the transfer tours as what would have just been travel days became on opportunity to do more sightseeing (great recommendation to see Tito’s atomic bunker). Thanks Camil for everything and best wishes for the future.

I went on a private tour with Ćamil to Stolac and surrounding areas. I’ve gone one quite a few tours but traveling with Ćamil was by far the best experience. His depth of knowledge, humor, professionalism and charm made the day perfect. Having it be a private tour, it was tailored my interests and time preferences. When I find myself in Herzegovina I will only book with him again :)

We had an amazing tour with Ćamil around some natural and historical jewels of Herzegovina. He is very friendly and knowledgeable and he made the car rides between the spots so light with his interesting coments and conversation. It was the highlight of our stay in Bosnia i would recommend 1000 times.

I could easily adapt the tour to my personal wishes. It was a special tour in which I saw a lot and learned about the nature, history and culture of the Blagaj region. Camil is a guide who clearly has a passion for the area and knows how to convey it. I definitely recommend Herzeg Day Tours!

Our nature tour around Mostar with Ćamil was a real adventure! This Janosik of the Bosnian mountains took us to untrodden trails, where every plant and stone had its own story, showing us hidden treasures of nature that we would not have found on our own. His positive attitude motivated us to cover more kilometers. Without his incomparable humor and stories, this experience would be like Mostar without a bridge - it seems to be there, but something is missing :)

Hiking the highest peaks of Prenj mountain with Ćmail was an amazing experience. This was one of our best day during our vacation in region. Ćamil is very knowledgable and professional guide. We felt very safe! Except for the very beautiful nature we learned a lot about history and culture. We can highly recommend to all nature enthusiasts.
