Located about 140 km from San Pedro de Atacama is the Salar de Tara. It forms part of the Flamencos National Reserve. Preparation already starts with the appropriate clothes, since it is at an altitude of 4,400 meters and the wind is often very strong during the morning and at the end of the day the cold prevails. In this part of the desert, salt flats are found – where sand is exchanged for salt. That's right: it's a salt desert. The colors are vibrant and the fusions between them give an even more beautiful highlight. There you will also see the Lagoon of Crystals, where salt accumulates on its edge and forms true crystals. Another incredible landscape there are the huge rock formations that form real sculptures, known as the Sentinels from Tara, some even resemble the Moais found on Easter Island. The ocher of the desert, the white of the salt, the blue of the lagoons and the soft red of the flamingos. Doesnt it look nice as your first desert experience?
