Know what you’re doing and just need the gear? Explore Lake Wanaka on this self-guided kayaking activity! We’ll get you and the gear out to where you start and your Mission is to paddle it all back!
Head off with your buddy, partner or group of friends and enjoy a morning of paddling on Lake Wanaka. We’ll arm you with a kayak, safety equipment and a map, get you out on the lake and your mission is to paddle back to Wanaka Township.
Paddle the shoreline, explore islands, jump off jetties, or stop for a picnic - it’s your adventure, your way.
Additional Info
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Not available to first time or inexperienced kayakers
Participants MUST be confident swimmers
All participants must have kayaking experience and can swim; as this is a self guided option in a remote area. You must be able to self rescue

What To Expect
Know what you’re doing and just need the gear? We’ll arm you with a kayak, safety equipment and a map, get you out on the lake and your mission is to paddle back to Wanaka Township. First we will transport you from Wanaka to your starting point, brief you on your direction and paddle distances. This is a self guided remote self guided tour; meaning you are on your own. To undertake this activity safely you must be a confident kayaker, be able to swim a minimum of 200m and able to self rescue in case of capsize. Your paddle distance is approx. 9-12km depending on the start location.

5.00This is a fantastic way for the reasonably competent kayaker to spend four hours exploring Lake Wanaka. Ruby Island is a highlight. Good quality gear with a choice of singles/doubles/sea kayaks/SOTs.

5.00If you have basic competence in kayaking then this is a great way to have a half day on the beautiful waters around Wanaka. We and our hired kayaks ( Misson Glide singles) were taken by Austin in a water taxi a few kms out and dropped off on a beach, with all necessary equipment and instructions. We then made our way back, exploring as we went, over the next 3 1/2 hours. There are plenty of easy beach landing spots - a highlight was Ruby Island. It was great to have a few hours out there, with the only requirement being that we checked in by phone mid- trip. Definitely recommend this tour if you’re confident and competent in a kayak as a great way to see Wanaka from the water.

5.00Good service, good options for paddling or kayak and trips to the ruby island. Easy instructions. Very glad that we chose to do this, do it earlier in the morning before it became too hot, and this place is less busy than queenstown, with little disturbances from water skiing or sailing. Very peaceful and at your pace experience.
