What To Expect
Garni Temple
The Temple of Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. An Ionic pagan temple located in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia.
The Monastery of Geghard
Geghard is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with enhanced protection status. While the main chapel was built in 1215, the monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. The monastery had thus been originally named Ayrivank, meaning "the Monastery of the Cave". The name commonly used for the monastery today, Geghard, or more fully Geghardavank, meaning "the Monastery of the Spear", originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, called here Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the Echmiadzin treasury.

5.00We had a great time exploring Armenia with Levan. We had a mixed group and language wise Levan was perfect for us as he spoke very good English and Russian. In addition he guided us to all the places and provided a brief history for every stop. The minivan we had was comfortable, in good condition and had wifi.

5.00Levon is a fantastic driver: thoughtful, kind and not overbearing (although he'll happily answer any questions you have). I especially enjoyed having time to myself to discover each site. The trip was fabulous.

3.00We enjoyed each stop on our tour, but we were disappointed that our driver was a driver only. We expected to have someone explain some of the details related to each stop, but our driver spoke no English. I believe we could have paid less for a driver only.

2.00The “guide” was just a driver and spoke very little English (quasi none). The car was old (probably the 90’s) and very small. Our recommendations is rent your own car and do the tour, it will save you lots of money for the same result.

4.00The driver is fluent in English. Don't say much, easy with minimal interference. It is expensive, but is ideal as an efficient means of transportation.
