Day 1

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,720 m)

Start the climb at Marangu Gate with registration and briefing. Trek through thick rainforest filled with birds and colobus monkeys. The trail is gentle and humid as you ascend to Mandara Hut. Optional short walk to Maundi Crater for views toward Kenya.

Day 2

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Leave the forest and enter the heather and moorland zone. The views open wide with clear sights of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Lunch is served along the way before reaching Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

Acclimatization - Zebra Rocks - Horombo Hut (4,020m)

Summit day begins around midnight. You ascend steeply to Gillman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After photos and celebration, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue to Horombo Hut.
