World Heritage Kinderdijk
To improve the region’s water-management facilities, a series of windmills were constructed near Kinderdijk around 1740. A living testament to The Netherlands’ age-old struggles with rising waters, the mill network at Kinderdijk was built to keep the surrounding region safe from floods. It was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1997 due to its cultural, historical and technological significance.
Delft
Get a taste of old-world charm as you wander around historic Delft. Walk with your guide through cobblestone streets lined with quaint houses, canals, and historic churches. Picture perfect Delft is known for the painter Johannes Vermeer, William of Orange and last but not least Delft's world famous earthenware 'Delft Blue'.

I was looking for a daytrip to the Kinderdijk windmills that would suit my 90 year old mum, who can walk well but slowly and not for long distances. I booked this tour with Steven Attersol for a number of reasons: We were only visiting two locations, we could go at our own pace, we were picked up at our hotel and the reviews were all positive. And we were not disappointed. Steven provided us with extensive knowledge of Amsterdam, Kinderdijk and Delft, he was patient and helpful with my mum and he took us to a charming café in Delft for fabulous apple pie. It was a lovely outing and definitely worth it. I can highly recommend Steven and this tour!

As part of our road trip in the Netherlands, we discovered Kinderdijk and its mills 🌾 Visit of Kinderdijk – 12 April 2025 As part of our road trip to the Netherlands, we had the chance to discover Kinderdijk, an iconic UNESCO World Heritage site with beautiful weather. This unique village brings together 19 perfectly preserved historic mills nestled in a typical Dutch polder landscape. The tour offers a real journey back in time, with an immersion in the ancestral workings of water management in the Netherlands. 👍 What we liked: • The exceptional natural setting: paths along canals, birds, reeds... A peaceful and photogenic decor. • The historical richness: the mills open to visit are furnished and animated, with clear explanations about the lives of the millers. • 🚲 Possibility to visit on foot or by bike, or even by boat, to vary the views. We took beautiful images, especially with our drone. It is a must for lovers of heritage, nature and hydraulic engineering. A soothing, cultural and authentic experience. We will keep a strong and striking memory of it. We really liked it!!!

A wonderful experience with Steven! He gave us so much insight into Amsterdam and the Windmills. Our drive to Delft really showed us the countryside, We had a wonderful tour of Delft and visiting the workshop, De Candelaer, was very informative. Steven suggested a great restaurant for lunch in Delft and a very fine French restaurant in Amsterdam, In T Vierde Barrsje.

Steve was an amazing guide! He asked us questions about how we wanted to tailor our time and made sure we made the most of it. We had a great experience visiting Delft and learning about how the ceramics are made. The family owned shop was a treat to visit. We really enjoyed that we got out of the busy city and learned so much about The Netherlands. Steve was a wealth of information and took us to the places the locals visit. This was a day we will certainly remember. At the end of our trip he even had a little momento from his company as a thank you. If you want to see true Netherland windmills and visit a beautiful city, I can’t recommend Steve enough! You will have a wonderful day!

Our guide prepared ahead of time with every detail and then he did a great job modifying our tour in the moment when we needed to eat or wanted to spend more time at a stop. He was very friendly and had a great way of sharing information. I would highly recommend our guide Steve and this tour!

This was a fantastic trip that took us well outside of Amsterdam to visit the UNESCO Kinderdijk Windmills and a tour through Delft. Steven greeted us promptly at 09:30 in front of our hotel and adjusted the initial itinerary based on it being a holiday. So that meant Kinderdijk first instead of Delft. Kinderdijk was great and Steven showed his skills by filling in the details of the how and why about The Netherlands, how the land was all made by hand, and the importance of the windmills in keeping the country dry. Onto Delft. We originally thought it would be more about the pottery, but were very surprised both on the amount of time spent on the pottery (a little) and how much in the town of Delft (a lot). Steven showed us to a nice spot with the best Apple Pie we have had in the country, and spent a bit of time walking among the historic buildings and telling us the fascinating history of the city, province and country. I’d say the only bad thing is we should’ve booked him on our first day. After the tour he had a lot of useful information about the surrounding areas, and other parts of Amsterdam to visit. Great and very thoughtful tour, and you’ll get so much more out of it by talking to your guide and asking questions.

Stephen is a great tour guide. For us from the USA he does a good job of converting metric to our usage so we can visualize size, depth and such. He has great knowledge of the history of what we're viewing and gives interesting little known facts
