Wonderful safari with Rufus - family of four all adults. Wow the private safari exceeded all of our expectations and it was very apparent Rufus was very well experienced - knew the park excellently and had great contacts meaning we got to see so much and so close. His respect for the environment and animals was apparent and he provided us with so much education. Best of all he made it fun for all of us - the break stops were lovely and he made sure we used every moment of the day to enjoy the park. Would love to do it again and again!!!

Our private safari with Gerri Smit was an unforgettable experience. Gerri gave us lots of great background information about the park, the history and the animals and plants. He knew where there was the best chance of sightings. The highlight for us was a lioness suckling 2 cubs - and that at about 5m distance! The whole day was just incredibly impressive! Many thanks to Gerri

He knows his way around the park and can tell you in the most pleasant and intresting way about the animals and the park! We laughed the whole day and had one of the most beautiful days of our lives! He also takes incredible pictures he sends you afterwards. We would DEFINITELY recommend booking with Gerry, he will make your experience at Kruger even more special! Thank you so much Gerry!

Our family of three had an excellent private tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, seemed to know everyone in the park, and found all the wildlife we were hoping to see, including a leopard. We could not ask for more. This tour is highly recommended.

There is no better tour guide than Gerri with Kruger Gateway Safaris! As two single females traveling through South Africa, safety was very much on our mind as we planned for our trip. Gerri was readily available via Whatsapp to help us plan out our time at KNP and to give us recommendations that extended beyond our time booked for Safari. Not only was Gerri knowledgeable, but he was prompt, kind and very good at his job! On our first day exploring, we saw 4 of the 5 Big Five, plus 2 endangered species! The next day we were on a mission to see a Rhino, and Gerri was dedicated to making it happen. Not only did we have three sightings from a distance, we also got to see this magnificent animal so close it was surreal and not only that, we saw all Big Five that day, plus so much more! Gerri has good rapport with many of the other safari guides and staff at KNP so information is shared feeling amongst then as the where the animals are hanging out any given day. Gerri also has a profound respect for these animals and the land they inhabit. We truly enjoyed out time and highly recommend Kruger Gateway Safaris if you are ever planning to visit South Africa. What was thought to be a once in a lifetime experience has become our first of hopefully many visits to this beautiful country!

An incredible day in KNP with Gerrie from Kruger Gateway Safaris on Saturday 1 Nov 2025. A most informative time was had by all as Gerrie entertained us with storytelling and information regarding the bush, the trees, the birds, and the animals. We were most fortunate to have seen the big five in just one morning. Stopping to see a rhino wallowing in the mud pool on the side of the road. After having been spoilt at the sighting of a herd of Buffalo. Many thanks for a wonderful experience. On departing from Kruger heading out towards Numbi gate...we were not done yet! low and behold there was a herd of 15 Sable antelope, excitement ran high as we are regular visitors to the park and have only seen Sable on one other occasion, our trip with Gerrie was awesome, awesome, awesome.

My parents and me went on this trip with Gerrie. It was such an amazing trip. Gerrie was a wonderful guide and was very enthusiastic about nature and the animals - which had a positive effect on us as we started to see everything in a totally different way. He had a deep knowledge about the Kruger park, the nature and the animals living there. Gerrie was very considerate, reliable and respectful and a very interesting discussion partner. You can see that he does his job with his full heart. We would go anytime for another safari trip with him without hesitation. Absolutely 100 % recommendation!

Wow, we are so happy to have secured a day's safari with Gerrie! It was a day that our family will never forget - Gerrie's comprehensive knowledge of the animals and park lead to a phenomenal experience. He went out of his way (quite literally) to show us as much as possible. We were so lucky to see a huge variety of animals and birds, including, but not limited to: Lions, Warthogs, a honey badger, giraffes, zebras, bushbucks, Kudu, buffalo, lots of impala and the crowning delight of a male leopard relaxing within 3 meters of the vehicle. The added bonus of Gerrie taking amazing photos as we went, and forwarding them the same evening just topped off the perfect experience. Thank you Gerrie!

What a day :-) Gerry picked us up as promised at exactly 5.00 a.m. Because of a concession he has we were in the park within 2 minutes of arriving at Phabeni gate. And importantly before nearly all the other operators. By 7.00 a.m. we had seen 3 lion, a Leopard just yards away and a distant Cheetah. Extraordinarily lucky but that what Bushcraft and contacts can make happen. Gerry was a fabulous guide. He knows the bush and he understands animal behaviours. So helpful in seeking out likely spots to observe the wildlife. Our day was very full. He also offered to take photos with his camera. He is good at it. The photos he then sent us are just wonderful. So much better than my wife or I could manage. It also left us free to look at everything without bother. A brilliant addition and no cost - all included. Loads of stories and anecdotes. An interesting man. We would not hesitate to recommend Gerry. If we come back to Hazyview he is our go to guide. You will not be disappointed.
