The pick up time is at 6:45 am and the excursion from Tbilisi starts at 7 am which is ok as Kutaisi is about 3 hours drive. Our guide joined us in Kutaisi, before that for 3 hours we were just going in a bus. The guide didn’t speak good English, did not explain anything on the way. We stopped first at the restaurant ordering the food, wasted there about an hour. Went to the cave, had to wait there for another 30 minutes before entering. The guide said 10 words about the cave and that was all. After we came back to the same restaurant to eat, the lunch was not ready even though we ordered 1.5 h before. Their payment machine didn’t work, there was a long line, wasted again at least an hour. It was my mom’s bday, I asked the guide if she could arrange the piece of cake as she was talking to the stuff all the time, but in the end she didn’t do anything at all. Didn’t even come back to me with an answer. After that we had to drive about an hour in the canyon. Again. No information given about the canyon at all. Before reaching we were informed that the most beautiful experience - the boats riding in the canyon is closed!!! So we just walked around again on our own enjoying just the views. On the way back the driver was going like crazy as if he was bringing the wood not the people. Overall - the places we visited are nice but the time management and the guide are the worst we tried in Georgia. Take the private guide to go to these places and make sure you are informed if you can do all the activities.

  • Mixed Feelings: Caves, Waterfall, good guide but Rafting Letdown

Our recent tour to the caves and waterfall was a mixed bag. While the natural beauty of the location was undeniable, and we enjoyed seeing the caves and the waterfall, we were ultimately disappointed by the unavailability of canyon rafting. This was the primary reason we booked the tour, and its absence significantly impacted our overall experience. On the positive side, our guide, Nika, was excellent. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and took great care of our group throughout the day. His professionalism and friendly demeanor were definitely highlights of the tour. He ensured we were comfortable and well-informed, and his efforts were much appreciated. However, the lack of canyon rafting left us feeling that the tour fell short of our expectations. It's crucial that tour operators accurately represent the availability of activities and manage expectations accordingly. If rafting is subject to change or cancellation, this should be clearly communicated at the time of booking. Adding to our disappointment, the restaurants we were taken to for meals left us feeling uneasy after eating. We experienced some discomfort, which further detracted from the overall experience. In summary, the caves and waterfall were pleasant, and Nika was a fantastic guide. However, the disappointment of missing the main attraction and the unsettling meals overshadows the positive aspects of the tour. We would recommend this tour with the caveat that potential visitors confirm the availability of all activities, particularly the canyon rafting, beforehand, and perhaps inquire about alternative dining options. For the price that we paid it wasn't worth it.

It was a great adventure. Tengo, the guide, was incredibly professional, fun and friendly and made the experience very memorable.

  • Well organized tour but not that impressed with canyon and caves

A lot of reviews talk about the travel time and it is true that you are travelling long hours - 7 am departure, 3 hour drive to Kutaisi, 30 minute drive to Prometheus Cave, 1 hour drive to the canyon and then 4.5 hours drive back to Tblisi. This means, you will be spending more than 12 hours on the road for approximately 45 minutes of the cave, 15 minutes in the canyon and weather-permitting 15 minutes on the boat ride in the canyon. However, this is probably something you should know before the booking. People taking this tour, don't have the time to stay overnight in Kutaisi and still want to do the key highlights from Kutaisi. It will involve significant travel time. I appreciate that this tour is being offered to those of us based out of Tbilisi but wanted to see more of Western Georgia. Once you are convinced to take this tour, the tour itself is well organized. The hosts who meet you at 6:30 am i the morning were very positive and peppy, so early in the morning and tried to create an exciting atmosphere for 6 very groggy guests. The guide - Tengo, who joined us in Kutaisi was also very energetic and peppy throughout and would be happy to share the information he has. I also appreciate that he created a Whatsapp group between the guests to foster connections and share several photographs that he took of the group. For some reason, he isn't spoken about much on these reviews but Tengo is a great guide. Much appreciate his energy and knowledge. The two activities itself - Martvili Canyon and Prometheus Caves was ok. The caves were stunning but the tour by the official cave team was a bit staid. The caves-assigned tour guide rushed through her talk and barely even waited for people to reach the spot to finish her talk. As the cave involves single file movement, it meant that she was next to useless to giving any information on the caves. Thankfully, Tengo, our tour guide compensated for it. I also found the pathway to be too structured with its steps, lights and lanes that took away from the authenticity. The canyon was ok because it rained the entire day, we couldn't take the boating tour. The walk was 10 minutes and beautiful to look at but a little too long a drive for the final result. Not sure if I would have liked the canyon more had the boat tour been operational. However, I felt a little bit disappointed with the end result of driving so long to go to the canyon. My score is reflective of the tour efforts of the company rather than the actual tour. If I had to rate the canyon and cave, I would have probably given it 2 stars instead.
