Among these living traditions is the refined world of the Geisha. Often perceived as private and elusive, it can feel hard to approach. In this experience, we open that door with clarity and care: a concise stage performance followed by elegant conversation, photo time, and an open Q&A.
What to Expect (90 minutes total)
Cultural Introduction (15-20min):
An expert-led talk on the living traditions—roles and training, daily life, etiquette, and the evolution of Geisha arts.
Geisha Show (10-15 min):
“Ladies and gentlemen…” Maiko enters and performs a traditional dance, accompanied by a brief explanation of its story and gestures.
Conversation, Photos & Q&A (remainder):
Enjoy an unhurried dialogue with Maiko. Ask thoughtful questions, take photos, and appreciate the nuances of costume, movement, and ritual.

5.00We met at the front of a shrine and our tour guide took us to the Geisha school and gave us information on geisha/geiko/maiko training. Then we walked a short way to the tea house. It was very pretty. We met the Maiko who performed two dances for us. Then we were able to chat with her for a while. The best surprise was she is going to debut as a full Geisha at the end of the year. This was a wonderful experience.

5.00Once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to experience. Our guide was great at balancing being formal for the Maiko as well as making us feel comfortable and informed. The dances the Maiko performed were beautiful, and we had plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy tea.

5.00What an amazing experience! After a short walk around the local area we went to a cafe and met with a lovely Maiko. She answered our questions about her training and the lifestyle. We had two very beautiful dances and enjoyed a drink. The matcha latte was delicious. The maiko was very graceful and sweet. We had some lovely photos with her to remember our special time in Kyoto.
A truly memorable experience! Do it if you can!

5.00This is my 4th trip to Kyoto and of all my experiences this by far is the most memorable! The Maiko’s performance was excellent! The exquisite detail of her kimono and painted features combined with her graceful movements convinced me that I was witnessing something special. Supporting the performance was the location which helped me think I was back in time. The experience also allowed us to ask questions to the Maiko which elevated our appreciation of the Maiko’s dedication to her art. As we walked back to our meeting place, we were accompanied by the Maiko. It was like walking with a celebrity and we felt honored by her kindness in walking with us. A special thank you to our guide and interpreter who was very friendly and kind. I highly recommend this experience if you’re able to do it!! A must do!!

5.00We had an amazing tour guide named Saya, she was incredibly knowledgable, friendly and helped with our holiday recommendations. She was a great support in translating for the Maiko. This was such a highlight of the trip for our family to meet with the Maiko who was friendly, engaging and sharing with her story and experiences. Plus she did two beautiful Geisha dances. Loved everything about this trip, Saya's support and a special meeting with a beautiful Maiko. Thank you again.

5.00Our guide Saya was gentle kind and warm - she was the best host to introduce us to our lovely Maiko. Each moment was well spent and an amazing visceral experience of learning! We were entranced the entire time!
