Take your time getting there. Depending on where you are staying, you may hit traffic. It was an amazing cultural experience with the ability to have a hands on experience on using a katana sword. The ones we used are a bit different than the "real" ones, for they are much heavier. We were broken into two groups. Half of us went outside for the sword experience and the others were inside doing breathing/meditation exercise and then we switched. Highly recommend.

Really incredible experience! So worth doing. Learning about the history of samurai’s and the location, the meditation and the sword handling was one of our favourite experiences here.

We thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The staff were great, supportive and knowledgable. I would highly recommend. The only downside were a few late commers that made it difficult to hear the introduction to the history of samurai at the begining of the session.

It was fun with a blend of practice and history. The staff were helpful, kind, and gracious. I really enjoyed practicing and if anything I would like to have done more but we had a large group.

This was a great experience! It was a brief glimpse into the life of a samurai. The house”s history added to the atmosphere. The pictures the staff took made a great souvenir.

A really impactful experience I wont forget. This is no novelty experience, it is a chance to step into the Japanese history and culture. We learnt about Kyoto’s past, the samurai way of life, the iconic sword we all know and love, and the philosophical foundations of Japan. I knew i’d love the sword handling element, but I have to say… I was really moved by the zen meditation section of the experience. If you can, do not hesitate… it is a must for any trip to Kyoto.

A fantastic experience. The structure of the program was great, combining Zen techniques, sword history and construct and finally and best of all, using the swords following instruction of how to wield properly.
