This is an experience we couldn’t recommend more. Our amazing tour guide Grace contacted us the day before and gave up specific information of how to get from our hotel to the meeting point which was really helpful. Originally we were expecting to be driven around in a private tour bus or something however the trip relied upon public transportation, funded by the company on the day, and this worked surprisingly well as it was effectively managed by Grace. Grace was the best tour guide, exceedingly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We loved visiting Tai O, it was such a unique experience and the scenery was so beautiful, we especially loved the boat trip, learning about the village itself and the bridge between Macao and Hong Kong, unfortunately we did not get to see any dolphins due to the wave conditions. The trip up the mountain to the big Buddha area was excitingly terrifying however the scenery was incredible. We loved seeing and learning about the big Buddha and the Chinese temple. After the trek up the 268 stairs to the Buddha the views are impeccable and definitely worth it. During the day we were provided a vegetarian lunch and a fish ball which was unique and delicious. It was lovely to get out of the city and see more of Hong Kong and this excursion was the best way to do so, we would absolutely recommend!

Originally I thought the tour was basically to see the Buddha but I was pleasantly surprised. The cable car was not operating so I feel I missed some great scenery from up top but the licensed bus ride was another experience going through the narrow and steep mountain road. The small cruise ship took us out on the bay - the typhoon cleared out the sky and Kowloon skyline was vivid. For a moment, dolphins showed up their grey backs in the windy water! Even more surprisingly, the little fishing village Tai Q was a significant stop, first a cruise-by via boat, then a close up walk through. These metal boxes of fishermen and small business owners’ residences are amazing. Dried fish hung by the windows and doors and we get a tasty fish ball treat. Then onto the main attraction to the mountain top, the Big Buddha. We go through the temples first to pay respect and then have a delicious vegetarian meal in the restaurant. Last but not least, we climbed up 269(?) steps to the base of Buddha. This was an amazing tour and our tour guide Linda is wonderful.

There are some extra costs, this is not apparent during the booking. Keep in mind that you are travelling by metro and you have to pay for it yourself, in addition it is not clear whether lunch is inclusive or exclusive. The text says lunch incl, but elsewhere again as an option. But you don't have the option to book your lunch anywhere, you pay for this on the spot. Our guide Christina has enthusiastically accompanied the group, to her I give 5 stars.
