During our vacation in San Juan, we wanted to try something a little different, so we ended up booking the Casa Bacardi Legacy Tour over in Cataño. TripAdvisor said to show up early for the welcome drink, so we did, and honestly that was great advice. The drink was really good, and the little grill on site gave us a chance to try some local food before the tour even started. There were also a bunch of spots around the welcome center that made for good photos, so we took our time with that. Our tour kicked off right on schedule with our guide, France. She mentioned she was new, but you wouldn’t have known it. She had a fun mix of humor and history that kept things interesting. We saw the outside of the factory, walked through the museum with all the old Bacardi items and displays, and watched a short film about the company’s background. At the end, we got to sample some of the premium Bacardi blends and then wandered into the gift shop. The whole tour was about an hour, which felt about right. The shop had a lot of rum options and souvenirs. My only complaint is that they don’t take cash, which is usually how I prefer to pay. Still, I ended up buying a Bacardi cigar ashtray with my card before we headed back toward the welcome center. From there, we grabbed an Uber to the Cataño port and took the quick ferry over to Old San Juan. That part wasn’t planned, but it ended up being one of the highlights. It was cheap, only four dollars for both of us, and the ride was short, scenic, and just a fun little bonus to the day. Overall, the Bacardi tour was really enjoyable and surprisingly informative. France made it even better with her energy and personality. We left feeling like we actually learned something about the rum and the company behind it. Definitely worth doing.

We loved learning about the history of Bacardi, you get a free drink in the beginning, which was a delicious Mojito for us, and the property is so beautiful

I was planning to take my husband on this tour, followed the instructions, but the ferry did not get us to the other side in time to make my tour. I had to end up taking a Uber to the tour which got me there later. So my money was wasted. I am hoping to get a credit to use it when I am the Punta Cana June 19, 2026.

The Legacy Tour at the Bacardí Rum Factory was somewhat informative, but not what I expected. I was hoping for a more hands-on experience, but it mostly involved riding a golf cart to a building (about a 2-minute ride), watching a 15-minute video, and spending another 10 minutes looking at old photos and history displays. There wasn’t much depth into the rum-making process, and the tour mainly highlighted the rums available for purchase. On the plus side, we did get a free drink and half a shot of one of their newer rums. Overall, it’s okay if you’re already there, but expectations should be kept modest.

We presumed the $15pp ferry and shuttle from Old San Juan would have been timed with the tours. It works on the way over, there is a cocktail to fill the time before the tour starts. But after the tour it is another 75 minutes before the ferry back to Old San Juan. Save the money, time, and frustration by just using Lyft both ways. It’s about the same price. The tour was actually nice and informative.
