We had an absolutely amazing time and could not recommend this tour more highly. Baba and his team are extremely welcoming and friendly, doing everything they could to make our trip great. We saw so many beautiful sights and toured the entire country, with many activities we couldn't do on our own. Camping on sand dunes was a definite favorite, as well as off-roading through the desert, visiting the Terjit Oasis, and more.

Ahmed Yossf was a phenomenal guide and we had a sensational 6D7N tour with him and with T’Ore Mauritania. We were on a private tour (29M and 24F) in March 2025. [Guide] If you do go on a tour with T’Ore Mauritania, you must remember to ask for Ahmed Yossf. We started out strangers and ended the tour as friends for life. Ahmed went above and beyond his call of duty. On days where it was difficult to find food (as we travelled during Ramadan) he personally bought the ingredients, cooked and washed everything for us. Along the way we ran into another couple that was a bit lost and had some trouble communicating with their own driver, and he generously offered his help and steady hand in troubleshooting their trip, asking nothing in return. As a guide, he was perceptive and attended to our every need promptly, even without us having to ask. For example, he knew when we were tired and needed more rest. He also was able to bridge the cultural divide between Mauritania and us, explaining to us the cultural norms and even teaching us a phrase (or 10) in Arabic. Even when we woke up late a few times and peppered him with endless requests (e.g. we wanted to buy local Mauritanian dress or get the name of a song that just popped up on the radio or how to pronounce his name accurately) and questions, he never failed to answer with wisdom, intelligence, and a light touch of humor. He was humble, honest, and always punctual. A proud ambassador of Mauritania, and a guide that Mauritania can be proud of. [Schedule, visa, airport pickup] Right from the get-go, T’Ore Mauritania was flexible in accommodating our schedule. Our flights only left us about 6 full days in Mauritania, but Baba and Ahmed made the trip work, fitting in all the key highlights and attractions that Mauritania had to offer even with our shorter timeline. Baba and Ahmed received us at the airport at 3:00am and dropped us off at 1:00am, showing their hospitality and personal touch, which we really appreciated. On the last day, Baba even hosted us to Iftar and Tajine at his house. When we had some problems arranging the e-visa prior to the trip, Baba also helped us sort things out. Another note, they really mean it when they say “all inclusive”, we didn’t have to worry about a single meal or hotel on the trip and it really helped free our mind to enjoy the Sahara desert and all that it offers. [Attractions] Most people (like us) came in expecting the iron ore train to be the only thing to do in Mauritania- we had totally changed our mind by the end of the trip, due to the infinitely beautiful and fascinating natural wonders that Mauritania has to offer. When on this tour, we really got the feeling that Ahmed, Baba, and the team perfected the tour. It was like a well-oiled machine, whisking us from one phenomenal experience to another without any hiccups. We got to see two ancient cities - Ouadane and Chinguetti. These are truly gems of the Sahara, with precious relics from the past when caravans used to pass through the Sahara. We also got to see the world’s second largest monolith, Ben Amera, and other geographical wonders such as swimming in the Terjit Oasis and climbing (on our hands and feet) stunning sand dunes in Azoueiga. Even on our tight schedule, when we asked for a camel ride and to see the Choum tunnel, Ahmed delivered our requests. Literally - waking up one morning, and two camels were ready there for us to ride! [Accommodation & Comfort] As a couple traveling from far away in such a short time, we really appreciated that the tour worked in plenty of rest time (think: afternoon naps when the desert sun is high, naps in the car, long lunches) to help us cope with the challenging desert climate. After the iron ore train too, we also had almost a whole day of rest. As travelers who are also typically quite fussy with accommodations, we truly loved all the auberges and hotels we stayed in along the way. It was truly a luxury experience where we least expected to find it. [Food] And for the food - it’s unlike anything you’ve probably ever tasted in your life. Even though we tend to be a bit fussy with food, we had no problems with the new cuisine. Each day was a medley of delicious legumes, rice, and exotic meats such as camel. Ahmed even took us to a local market where we got to try foods such as Mauritanian liver barbecue; we also stopped on a roadside tent to have some camel milk. And of course - all the shots of sweet mint tea that we chugged along the way :) Overall, we could not recommend this tour more strongly. A hidden gem, a must-do, simply unmissable. We’ll be back for more! Side notes that we couldn’t fit: bring anti-car sick pills if you get car sick easily (we personally don’t, but the off-road can be quite bumpy even with our skillful and steady driver). Bring anti-fly and mosquito spray for the nights in Ouadane and Chinguetti.

From arrival to check-in I can only say a huge praise to Baba and his entire team. The guides Adnan & Mome are dedicated to providing you with the perfect experience around the clock - with success! Mauritania has so much more to offer than the ride on the iron ore train (and that was a great experience !), from breathtaking desert landscapes to oases from 1001 nights and starry skies known only from pictures to ancient cities and exciting coastal landscapes - it was a fantastic trip I will not forget ! The accommodations are top, the food anyway and the communication with the guides is super easy - in English as well as in French. The locals are very friendly and warm throughout, and there was not a single moment when I didn't feel safe - that's why I can't understand the resie warnings in Europe ! I envy anyone who still has the experience of a Mauritanian trip with Baba and his team ahead of him.... Thanks to Baba, Adnan, Mome and the drivers for the unforgettable moments!!!

This is the tour you are looking for in Mauritania! We had an incredible time during our 8-day private tour in Mauritania - the highlights included, of course, riding the infamous Iron Ore Train (18 hours from Zouerate to Nouadhibou), camping next to huge sand dunes in Azoueiga as well as exploring the ancient towns of Chinguetti and Ouadane. Moreover, the food was surprisingly tasty (food is influenced both by Morocco and Senegal)!

I came with a backpack and no expectations. I left with memories for a lifetime and new friends! This tour was probably the best tour of my life. I had some issues with my flights and came some hours after the other adventurer, but Baba picked me up and drove me to the rest. There Moma was waiting for me and gave me a nice welcome and the adventure started. I came for the train, but I left without caring too much about the train. It was an experience for sure, but the rest of Mauritania was so awesome. I want to come back in the future and see more cities and oasises! I also would like to dedicate a special thanks to Da, the cook, for letting us drink tea with his family. It was very nice! Thinking about doing this tour? Just do it. Its awesome in every level and you get taken care of from the second you arrive til the second you leave. Proffesional, efficient and tries to give you all your needs. I'll be back for sure, I already miss the tea and camping on the dunes! Best wishes, Vegard - The Norwegian guy with too many questions!

On this tour, I climbed the highest sand dune, camped in the desert, and slept under the stars. I explored ancient cities, rested at an oasis, and swam at the beach. I visited the iron mine and rode the Iron Ore Train for 18 hours. Thank you to Baba for handling every detail--including vegan meals just for me--and for creating such a great travel experience.

It was a beautiful trip and Baba is a great guide and host. Always making sure we were all taken care of and having the best time. Mauritania is a BEAUTIFUL country !!! The food, hotels, quality of the cars and drivers .... outstanding for the conditions and how isolated many places were. The Iron Ore train ride was epic, would love to do it again ! Thank you again Baba and the entire team for all your outstanding work. Andres
