Castelo de Sesimbra
The origins of Sesimbra Castle date back to the 9th century, during the period of Muslim occupation of the territory. In 1165, it was conquered by King Afonso Henriques, but in 1191 it was lost to the Almohads. Its definitive reconquest was carried out by King Sancho I in 1199, who granted the first charter to the village of Sesimbra, which at the time was located within the castle walls. Throughout the Middle Ages, due to its strategic importance in defending the kingdom’s maritime and land borders, the castle underwent numerous expansions

5.00This tour truly became one of our favorites during the visit to Portugal. Our wonderful guide Ricardo went out of his way to showcase the stunning beauty of Arrabida. He picked us up near our hotel in Lisbon, making everything so convenient. Throughout the day, we stopped at many breathtaking viewpoints and beaches that left us in awe. Ricardo was incredibly kind and even took photos of my mom and me throughout the tour. He captured some truly special candid moments that we would have never been able to get ourselves. Overall, the tour went smoothly, and we both felt completely relaxed and at ease. We enjoyed some divine wines at the Bacalhoa winery, and before that, Ricardo kindly offered us delicious fresh cheese and bread from the local market. After winery visits, we had a wonderful lunch at a charming local restaurant—I had one of the best shrimp curry stews ever! Our last stop was at a tile workshop, where we learned even more about the beautiful Portuguese tiles and how they are crafted and painted. Ricardo generously shared a wealth of insights into Portuguese culture and lifestyle. He also offered fantastic tips on how to explore more hidden gems around Lisbon and make the most of your visit.
