What To Expect
Simatai Great Wall
Start your day with early morning pickup at your Beijing hotel and 2 hour transfer in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Then you will start your romantic Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town Tour. First take the ferry to the foot of the Great Wall, ride on a cable-car to the summit. Once you are up there, walk a little bit, you will see lots of locks and wishing cards running up the side on a chain after coming out of the cable car. Afterwards, you will receive a Love Lock or a wooden wishing card from your tour guide, hang a padlock and throw the key away so that your love is locked forever. This is not only for lovers but also can be for the family members and close friends to put on the locks here. Lock your forever love or best friendship here, or hang a wishing card to wish the best luck to your family members and friends. Continue to your tour by foot, you will be amazed with how untouched and well preserved this Great Wall still remains since Ming Dynasty. The Simatai Great Wall is located 120km away from Beijing. Originally built during the Northern Qi dynasty (550–577) and rebuilt in the Hongwu years of the Ming dynasty. It's 5.4 km long with 35 beacon towers, known for its steepness. This part of your trekking is one of the most beautiful sections among the Great Wall. The entire Wall is yours, and you can explore it by your own pace. It really is an architectural wonder.
Gubei Water Town
After finishing this hike, take the cable car down. Now you can start walking around in Gubei Water Town, relax yourself in the ancient town. You will be surrounded by the beautiful Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir. You surely will have a very unique experience in this rare natural old town with a combination of mountains, water, ancient villages and hilly-area quadrangle dwellings. Enjoy a tasty lunch meal at the Water Town or after your the Water Town visit (at your own cost). Your tour ends with hotel drop-off in Beijing in the late afternoon.

5.00Highly recommend! Tour guide was amazing and made our trip special.
Our trip to the Great Wall was absolutely fantastic. Our tour guide, Rita, was a real pleasure and made sure to make the day very special for me and my gf. We were, understandably, disappointed when we were told that due to the rain, we would not be able to put our love locks on the wall. But, Rita made sure that the day was memorable nonetheless and that we both had an amazing trip. We were celebrating my girlfriend's birthday that day. And, Rita and the company helped ensure that we had some birthday cake for the occasion. It isn't everyday that you can say that you were able to have birthday cake on the Great Wall of China. I can say without a doubt that she made my gf's birthday special.
Here are just a few important things that I would like to point out:
- She made sure to bring a very nice birthday cake for us
- She carried the cake up the wall for us so that we could eat it while we were up there
- She helped us take pictures on many occasions and we never felt hurried at all
- She offered great suggestions for photo opportunities
- She was insightful and informative so we felt as though we also had an educational experience
- She left us along during certain times to give us some space and room enough to wander and enjoy our time together
- She was helpful in helping us order food and in making recommendations
- She has great stories especially while we were at the Summer Palace
- She has a great grasp of the English language and we never felt as though it was hard to understand what she was saying
- She was patient with us and helped answer all of our questionsFor these reasons and more, I highly recommend that anyone looking for a private and memorable tour of the Great Wall to consider this one.
