Cross the Mekong by local ferry and step into village life just outside Phnom Penh. We will meet you at the dock and welcome you to our home, where we begin with a short introduction to essential oil making. From there, we walk together along quiet paths through the countryside to gather fresh herbs for the distillation. As we wander through the hinterlands, you will meet smiles and get a feel for daily life beyond the city. Back at our family garden, you will chop, distill, bottle, and label your oil with us. You will take part in every step of the process. As the oil appears drop by drop, you will see how something simple becomes something special. At the end, you will leave with your own handmade bottle and the scent of Cambodia in your hands.

This small family-run business is filled with so much love and dedication, that it turned this workshop into one of the most beautiful experiences here in Phnom Penh!! It was so lovely to learn everything first hand and have it explained with such passion. The location of the house is also in a very quiet and peaceful place, it makes you forget that you are in a big city like Phnom Penh. We were gifted the lemongrass oil we produced ourselves that day, which is the greatest memory of this wonderful day. Thank you so much!!

Just incredible. Standing by the river in front of the royal palace, you are in the city throng, but follow the river path left and within a gentle 15 minutes walk you are at the ferry. Your adventure begins. The walking path tucks in behind a small set of stalls on a roofed structure with open walls away from the road so ensure you keep left following the river. (Or take a taxi it’s that simple ) Getting a ticket is easy at the kiosk (0.19 uk each ) and as you are sent a picture of the boat you want from the two destinations available your journey starts. We were a novelty as most passengers were bikes or cars but everyone was smiley. Take an umbrella if it looks like rain as the ferry is open with no shelter. We were met by the owners nephew with umbrella’s and a tuktuk and skilfully we were whisked to his family home . We are shown how much lemongrass is required 4 kilos to make a tiny amount, and where and how it is grown. We watch and help the lemongrass prepared for distillation which takes 45-90 mins . So while we wait we visit the family organic farm. Followed by a trip to local temples hidden in woodland (insect repellent might be an idea) with information from family members. Our host is wonderful and ex tour guide she is easy to understand funny and caring. Once back refreshed with fresh fruit. Our incredible oil is ready to be bottled to use in burners with a spray bottle alternative too. The family runs their wonderful house as a homestay and a cooking school with a massage and yoga spa to follow. The house was build apart from her brother putting in the foundations mostly by our host Sophorsyim, who understandably was proud of her achievement. Then off back to the ferry with our oil and a happy heart to have shared some time with wonderful kind people. There are no gimics no hard sells just pride and happiness, which is infectious, which I encourage you to experience. Remarkable and a short trip I won’t forget thank you to the entire family including Baba the puppy. x

This is one of the most interesting and unexpected short trips we have been on. Taking the local ferry from the city (which was a wonderful experience in itself) you arrive 10 minutes later in the countryside, at the smart home of the family running the tour. They are so welcoming and friendly. You get to see how they plant and nurture the lemongrass on their small farm, and you get to participate in a bit of harvesting and chopping before the lemongrass oil production starts. Whilst this was taking place we were taken to a local temple complex by members of the family for an unexpected and excellent guided tour. You get to keep the actual oil you have helped to produce, and because it took slightly longer than expected the host's daughter gave us a free facial and head massage - brilliant! We did not want to start the tour at 8, so contacted the host to arrange a 9 oclock start which was no problem. Really interesting and unusual tour which you will love.
