Join Iruka Hawaii for a manta ray snorkel at sunset or under the stars. Departing from Honokohau Harbor, you’ll board our speedboat KIBOU and cruise the Kona coast! After sunset, gear up and head to Manta Ray Heaven, a site only accessible by boat. Submerged lights called “campfires” attract plankton, drawing in manta rays to feed. Float on a lighted platform and watch these gentle giants glide and roll below. This Big Island night snorkel is calm and beginner-friendly, with lifeguard-certified guides supporting all ages. First time snorkeling? We’ll offer simple tips to help you feel confident before entering the water. After 45 minutes in the water, enjoy hot cocoa, tea, and snacks as we cruise back under the stars. Named one of the “Top 10 Things to Do in Your Lifetime” by The Travel Channel, it’s the perfect end to an unforgettable night. Family-friendly and open to all ages. If you’re prone to motion sickness, take medication an hour before departure. You’re welcome to bring food and drinks. Alcohol is allowed after snorkeling (no glass bottles). Absolutely unforgettable experience with Hawaii Dolphin! Our night swim with the manta rays was nothing short of magical — watching those gentle giants glide beneath us under the moonlight felt like stepping into another world. Trev, Maddy, and Diego were incredible from start to finish — friendly, upbeat, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They made everyone feel safe and comfortable while keeping the mood light and fun the entire time. You could tell they love sharing this experience with people. If you’re visiting the Big Island, do not miss this tour — it’s a must-do bucket list adventure! Just make sure there’s always an extra Hydrojug on board… you’ll thank me later.

The boat should never have gone out. The water was incredibly rough. There was 3 year old and infant on board as well as numerous non-English speakers who couldn’t swim well. The swells were at least 6 ft. It was very difficult to get from the boat to the rafts. Multiple people felt so sick in the water that they had to be pulled back to the boat using swim noodles. The little girl was crying for her mommy. When we finally went back to the boat it was difficult and terrifying to grab the ladder and get on the boat, as the boat was rocking from side to side and sometimes the ladder was 6 ft above you. When we got on the boat, at least 8 passengers were bent over buckets, vomiting. They offered everyone vouchers for another trip out to see the rays. In what world would anyone do that again?

Captain Lena was amazing- she confidently piloted our boat through the darkest of nights! Maddie is not "just" a mask and snorkel provider- she is on the Board Of Directors for the Manta Rey foundation! Diego provided magnificent muscle and support! Thank you SO much for the video you shot. We has a blast and saw little Nico (baby manta ray). Highly recommend.

We took our 2 girls on this tour, ages 7 and 11. This was the first time for us on a boat in the ocean. My girls were pretty nervous swimming in the water at night, but they had life vests and wetsuits. Also, the crew was incredible staying right next to us in the water and helping the girls feel safe and calm. Girls were able to sit on top of floating square and see the manta rays just inches away! The manta rays were beautiful and peaceful, coming right up to us! We're so glad we did this tour! Definitely kid friendly, but maybe not for little ones 4 and under in my opinion. Fast boat ride and dark waters. I got severe motion sickness as everyone was getting back on the boat and Maddie helped me take care of business at the back of the boat discreetly and kindly! Wonderful crew and crazy cool experience!

I took my two girls, 15 and 9 years old on this tour and it was amazing... theres so many options to choose from but I'm glade we took Iruka. we took the 5:30 boat and I was a little worried since I wondered if it would be dark enough for the viewing...BUT it was perfect! we got to see the sun set, and since I had kids, it didn't end too late. we waited until the sun set to go in the water which was nice. I highly recommend getting the wet suits because it is freezing once you're done and sailing back to the harbor. ALSO bring extra towels from your hotel. The staff was awesome, cracking jokes and making us feel so comfortable....always making sure our trash was taken care of and we had enough snacks. Tamae was a mermaid and captured beautiful videos that i thought i wouldn't get since I forgot my gopro. I wish I had more cash to put in their bucket! There was also another little child on board that was crying throughout and the staff totally calmed her down in ways her parents couldn't and it ended up being a great experience for that family too. 1000000000% recommend.

We went on the night snorkel with manta rays last week, and it was hands down the highlight of our entire trip to Kona! Truly an unforgettable experience. The crew was fantastic, friendly, and very attentive. My 13-year-old son was a little nervous at first, but they made the setup simple and helped him feel completely comfortable in the water. Within minutes, he was smiling and in complete awe. Floating as the manta rays glided gracefully beneath us was breathtaking. They came so close almost touching us! Twirling, flipping, and there were so many it was absolutely majestic. Watching these gentle giants move with such elegance was something my family will never forget. This was absolutely the best part of our whole trip, and we would do it again in a heartbeat. If you’re visiting Kona, do not miss this magical experience!
