We will take you to the summit of Mauna Kea to see the sunset and we will do stargazing afterward (not at the summit). Our most unique part is that our guides will take the photo of the sunset and stars for you using their DSLR camera.

All photos are free of charge and you will get it to your smartphone at the end of the tour.

Great activity! The wind made it VERY cold but our tour guide James made sure we stayed warm. The view was incredible and the tour was amazing!!

Our instructor, James, took us in the tour on Monday 5/26/25 and he was amazing! Very informative, answered everyone’s questions, understanding, caring and patient! The view was breath taking and the star gazing photos were awesome! I would definitely recommend Hawaiian eyes tour with James to anyone interested in seeing Mauna Kea! Mahalo!

Mauna Kea is a high altitude peak, but worth the experience if you're into astronomy and stargazing. The ride up to the peak is over some rough roads but the view from the top is amazing. It is cold, windy and oxygen deprived, but the provided cold weather gear was sufficient to keep warm. James, our driver, was very attentive and helpful, and gave an excellent tour guide presentation on the drive, as well as during the stargazing session afterwards. My only gripe was there were 13 of us in a 14 passenger van, so it felt a little crowded. Food provided was so-so, just a BLT and water. I've been on a previous tour with a sit down hot meal, but I understand things have changed due to ant and non native vegetation encroachment on the peak, so full dinner options are no longer offered. Due to overcast skies, we had to wait a bit for the stargazing at night, but James and Wes kept us entertained and gave us hot cocoa to take out the chill. As the skies parted, we were treated to a crescent moon night and many constellations to view, including the Southern Cross All in all, a good experience, just be ready for the high altitude/lack of oxygen and the cold!
