What To Expect
Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark
Chamarel is a village in the southwest of Mauritius with a population of 700. It is named after the Frenchman Charles Antoine de Chazal de Chamarel, who lived in the area around 1800. Chamarel is primarily known for its scenic locations and nature attractions in its neighborhood. Among them are the Seven Colored Earth, the Chamarel Falls and the Black River Gorges National Park. The surrounding area is also known for its locally grown coffee and for the famous Rhum distillery .

Next, you'll head to Gorge Viewpoint, where you will stop for a stunning panoramic view of the endless green stretches. Amidst the unspoiled rainforest of Mauritius, there are almost 17,000 acres of rolling hills, deep valleys, spectacular waterfalls and unparalleled beauty of flora and fauna in the southwestern region. You will be amazed to discover how high the viewing area is from the gorge. On the right side of the viewpoint, you can see a breathtaking waterfall. The path leading to the viewpoint has a unique ambiance of its own with some souvenir stalls. Besides, on your way, you might come across a group of monkeys that come and greet you as a sign of welcome The Black River Gorges Nature Reserve was constructed in order to save the natural vegetation of the island and make it one of the most important Mauritian sights.

5.00We had a great day and can absolutely recommend the trip. Our driver and guide Baboo picked us up on time at the hotel. It has the perfect balance between information and tranquility - but more... Our route Baboo chose against the usual routine, so we had only a few other tourists at all stops and so had no hectic hustle and bustle - at any of the stops. That was really cool! At the stops Baboo accompanied us a bit, gave us information and took photos of us with our mobile phone. Then he waited at the car and we each had time to look around in peace. This was perfect for us, with other tourists the guides followed their guests permanently, which would have annoyed us rather. We had the perfect mix! The Indian restaurant approached by Baboo was top, the food mega-tasty. Baboo is a confident motorist who drives very safely and considerately. There was never any feeling of time pressure. We would book here again anytime and are very grateful for this beautiful day that Baboo has made possible for us. We booked through Check24 and have not found a better price anywhere... Baboo, thank you very much, we wish you all the best!
