Osh Bazaar
In the morning you’ll be picked up from a hotel to start your exciting city tour. The first place to visit will be the legendary open-air market Osh bazaar. It is said that if one wants to experience the local culture and life of a place one should visit the local market and Osh Bazaar is one of the best examples of the local markets in Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan in general. You can find everything here from food products and spices to common household goods, clothes, souvenirs, and even musical instruments, you’ll be surrounded by all the products you could possibly imagine. The crowds, the smells, and the noises can feel a bit overwhelming but it’s an experience you won’t easily forget.
Kyrgyz State Philharmonic Hall
We will continue our city tour with the charming architecture of the Mayor's office, International University, and the Philarmony itself. The white marble of the Philharmonic makes an impression by virtue of its being situated on a hill, like an antique temple, with colorful stained glass and hammered copper.

There seemed to be a lot of promise at the beginning with good communication with Talgat, the owner. However, the tour itself failed miserably. The car that showed up at our hotel was dirty, had a cracked windshield on the driver side and a torn back seat on the driver side, so that I sat up front and my wife sat on the back passenger side. Worse than that was our driver/guide, who was far more of the former and little of the latter. When he was not texting while driving the whole time, or talking about cars, he had virtually no information to provide us. As but one example, at Burana Tower he left us in the small museum to fend for ourselves. Fortunately, there was a woman in charge who took us around the museum. All he wanted to do was fly a drone from the top of the tower and seemed frustrated that due to my acrophobia (which kicks in when it kicks in) I determined that the climb to the top was going to be too stressful for me to attempt. Time management was yet another serious problem. We began at Burana Tower, so had the long drive from Bishkek in the morning, which made sense to do the hard part first. But the driver took hours driving back to Bishkek through the mountains. That would have been fine if our tour was a Burana Tower/Countryside Tour ... but it was not. We did not get back to Bishkek until the middle of the afternoon and after lunch at a dodgy local restaurant (where my wife got good poisoning) we didn't even get to the White House (the center of the city) until after 5 pm. At 6 pm we declared the tour over, not having seen several of the promised sites from the itinerary. We had intended to use Datka Travel for a tour in Almaty and we cancelled that, booking with a different tour company. (And my wife was still recovering from the food poisoning, so she didn't even make the Almaty tour, ruining another tour day.) At the end, I gave Talgat a rather diplomatic summary of how the day went and he really was not understanding of the seriousness of how things went down. We cannot recommend Datka - the worst of the three local tour companies we used during our trip to Central Asia.

Not the exact tour I went on, I swapped the Biskek city tour for a waterfall in the mountains and it was the best decision ever. My guide and I connected really well and had the absolute best of times during the long car rides.

Our guide Faruk was very safe and thoughtful, a lot of things packed into a day trip, perfect if you only have 1 day in Bishkek and if you like museums.

Anvar was a great guide. He speaks very good English and was proud to share his country with us. He easily explained the history and society of Kyrgyzstan. He was also a safe driver and made an effort to show us everything that we wanted to see. In addition to his concern for our enjoyment, he also chose an excellent restaurant for lunch. I highly recommend Anvar and this tour when exploring Bishkek and the surrounding area.

I booked my tour with Datka Travels and was fascinated with their professionalism. At first is the visit on Medieval Burana Tower and Bishkek City Tour which i would say a one of a kind tour in Bishkek, learning the history and understanding the way they live was an absolute bonus, explaining it in details. My guide Farukh was fantastic, answers my every detailed questions and so patient accompanying me places i would love to see. Thanks to Talgat who arranged my tour. The second day tour was a costumized arts and museum tour and the highlight of the day is the visit to the Great Emptiness Museum outskirt of Bishkek. That made my day with fantastic paintings and unique architecture of the museum. I have met the artist as well personally. To my surprise, lunch is also included on both days. So i had the chance to taste the proper gastronomic cuisine of Kyrgyzstan. Once again, Thank you Talgat and Farukh for accomodating me and for the warm welcome in Bishkek.
