Meissen is a town of approximately about 15 miles (25 km) northwest of Dresden on both banks of the Elbe river in the Free State of Saxony. Meissen is the home of Meissen porcelain, the Albrechtsburg castle, the Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Meissen Frauenkirche.The Grosse Kreisstadt (English: "major district town") is the capital of the Meissen district. Experience the unique opportunity to enjoy the special atmosphere during the Meißen Advent season. It takes 3 hours by car from Prague to reach Meissen. We spend two hours there.If you like Christmas, you will love Dresden! 11 completely different Christmas markets lie right at your feet: from the very traditional to the merry medieval to the apres-ski charm of the Huttenzauber - you will find it all. Mmmh, can´t you already smell the enticing aroma of baked apples. Takes 30-minute drive from Meissen to Dresden. We have four hours in Dresden for all. The tour takes twelve hours and is provided by car or minivan.

What To Expect
Albrechtsburg Castle
I will pick you up from the hotel you are staying with a driver at 8am.This tour is provided by car or minivan. It takes 12 hours. We will come back to Prague around 8pm. Meissen is approximately 3-hour drive from Prague. It will be our first stop. It is a town close by to Dresden on both banks of the Elbe river in eastern Germany. The Albrechtsburg, the former residence of the House of Wettin, is regarded as being the first castle to be used as a royal residence in the German-speaking world built in the 15th-century.

Nearby is the 13th-century Gothic Meissen Cathedral,whose chapel is one of the most famous burial places of the Wettin family.The hill on which the castle and the cathedral are built offers a view over the roofs of the old town.Meissen´s historical district is located mostly around the market at the foot of castle hill.

5.00What a fantastic experience! I could not have put my money to any better use than booking this day trip from Prague. My mother and I visited 9 cities during a 3 week Christmas market trip, and our market tours with Eva provided the best market experiences we had. She provided invaluable history and context that informed us about the cities and also explained some of the items being sold at the markets. I loved that she took us to visit 3 different markets in Dresden that each had a different “feel.” We also visited the Meissen Porcelain Factory, which was an unexpectedly rich experience, and a Meissen Christmas market. It was a full and deeply satisfying day! Eva herself was not just a wonderful guide but person as well. We chatted and laughed throughout the day, all while I learned about Prague, Dresden, and Meissen, the people who live there, and the culture. Thank you, Eva!

5.00I am so happy to have met Eva, who is truly such a wonderful person, very kind, caring, bubbly and hospitable. She made this private tour for me and my elderly father extra special and was extremely accommodating to my father's many needs. -Eva's company is the only company in Prague to offer a private, full-day excursion to both Dresden and Meissen, both of which are extremely beautiful, and surprisingly not far from Prague. In Dresden we visited the Zwinger palace, Semperoper, Brühl's Terrace, Hofkirche, Frauenkirche, Residenzschloss palace, and more. Great to have such a professional and caring guide, who also recommended an amazing place for lunch, what a treat! -In Meissen Eva suggested we visit the famed Meissen porcelain factory, as Meissen is the first European city to produce porcelain. Both interesting and beautiful, a great spot for souvenirs. Historic Meissen really blew us away, and we were amazed by its beauty. Knowing my father has trouble walking, Eva arranged for us to drive literally right into the castle/cathedral complex through the small historic streets. it felt like we were the only people to around, and basically explored the castle museum and cathedral ourselves. I can't stress how much Eva's kindness and generosity meant to me, she is such a warm person it felt like I knew her for ages. Her company goes beyond the normal/typical attractions, and takes you into the Czech countryside and beyond. get out and experience some exciting day trips with Eva's company, it is definitely worth it, and I cannot wait to see her again!
