We went on a tour with Larry, who took us to all the major viewpoints, including the backcountry stops only accessible with a Navajo tour guide. It was great to go on an open air safari vehicle and have a Navajo guide explain everything you were seeing. My little one had a lot of fun riding the truck over the rugged terrain, and my older one appreciated all the close up views of the buttes. The backcountry stops are totally worth seeing, and our tour guide even played a musical instrument on the Big Hogan stop that really helped immerse you into the environment. If you’re visiting Monument Valley, it’s totally worth paying for the tour, especially with a guide like Larry.

We took the Back Country tour in November 2025. To say it was awesome would be an understatement. My wife & I were blown away with the stark beauty of the Monument Valley. Our Navajo guide was just about the coolest dude we'd ever spent 2.5 hours with. It flew by and we were treated to parts of the reservation you can't otherwise visit. We learned plenty about Navajo/Diné culture & we were even treated to some of our guide's music in the spiritual settings of the valley rocks. Amazing. D & A - UK.

Our guide, Larry, was informative, insightful and friendly. I like his style. I particularly like how he provided info and insight once we were stopped, but during the drives he let us admire the scenery in peace and reverence, without the blaring amplified narration as I noticed some of the other tour companies were doing.

My boyfriend and I are fortunate to have reserved the all-day tour of Monument Valley and Mystery Valley led by Sandrea as our guide. Before the 8:30am start of the tour, we spent one night at The View hotel (the tour departs from the hotel’s parking lot) and watched the sun rise over Monument Valley, which was breathtaking and also provided some context for the incredible landscape that we spent the rest of the day exploring. While Monument Valley is the most recognizable for its famous buttes, mesas, and spires, the tour of Mystery Valley was a completely unique experience as you get to see many petroglyphs and ancient dwellings. We’d never seen anything like that, so for us it was well worth the extra time spent in Mystery Valley! We loved both tours, and Sandrea was an expert guide, sharing personal stories as well as her greater knowledge of the terrain, landscape, plants, and her Navajo culture. We also really appreciated the cozy blankets provided by the tour guide, since the desert was chilly particularly on the November morning when we went. Sandrea seemed happy to answer all of our questions, about both contemporary Navajo life in the valley as well as its rich history. We’ll remember this experience for the rest of our lives— highly recommend!

We had an excellent tour with Travis as a guide. He did a wonderful job showing us the monument and giving us some insight into his culture. We would highly recommend Travis and this tour again.

Great tour, this extended tour includes many sites and goes beyond the self drive scenic drive (which I would recommend driving in a normal road car) and is well worth the cost. We went on the morning tour and it was quite cold in October, so do wrap up (though our guide, Larry, did provide blankets).

This Monument Valley Back Country tour through Tribal Tours was incredible. Our guide, Travis Mose brought the canyon alive as he shared the culture, stories of the rock art and music of the Navaho nation. Travis introduced himself in the Navaho language. He also played his flute, chanted and sang while playing his drum. I hope you have this same experience on this tour!
