Moreton Island
In the morning, your 4WD coach picks you up from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, then travels to the ferry to Moreton Island. During the 75-minute ferry ride across Moreton Bay, take in views from the deck or cabin, keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine life. When you reach the island, your 4WD-vehicle drives along the sand to the Tangalooma Wrecks where you have several options for beachside fun. Follow your guide on a snorkeling tour of the famous shipwrecks; the 15 vessels were purposely sunk here to create a breakwall. This resulting reef is home to colorful corals, tropical fish, trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, kingfish and more. If snorkeling doesn’t appeal to you, use the provided transparent bodyboards to paddle in search of turtles, reef fish, coral and other critters, or simply relax on the white-sand beach. After the snorkel tour, your guide serves a picnic lunch before leading a tour on transparent kayaks to explore the Tangalooma Wrecks. Stay dry as you view an amazing array of fish right below your kayak. (Please note that a 4WD tour around the island will replace the snorkeling and kayaking if conditions are unfavorable). Next, hang on tight as your driver takes your 4WD on rough inland tracks to tall sand dunes that are ideal for sandboarding, a fun, high-adrenaline activity comparable to tobogganing. It is possible to reach speeds of up to 30 mphr (50 kph) as you zip down the dunes. After sandboarding, return to the coast and enjoy a swim at Tangalooma Beach (if time allows). Then catch the ferry back to the mainland and reach Brisbane or the Gold Coast in the evening.

This is a large group outing and a long day, as you have to be at the coach station for 6.45 am. There were 2 bus loads and we were split into groups and there were 30+ in my group alone. Think it would be fine for youngsters in a group, who definitely enjoyed the trip. The sandboarding was basically just getting a faceful of sand twice! Note to self: choose small group trips!

I had a great time as a solo traveler. I met others traveling solo and felt like part of the overall group. The desert was HOT and the water was refreshing. So many fish to see! The most exciting part was getting to feed the fish. They had no problem eating from my hand. Recommended trip!

I was originally dreading this event a bit as I didn’t not think I would enjoy it. I went because the rest of my family wanted to go. In the end this by far has been the best experience of my trip! The staff is friendly, professional and helpful. Great company to book with. I would do this event again in a heartbeat. You will not be disappointed.

Great tour, well organised, snorkeling and kayaking were really fun, but would definitely skip sandboard and just chill in the beach, the heat was unbearable!

The Morton Island tour was a great experience. We throughly enjoyed snorkelling and kayaking. I would say that the sand boarding isn’t worth it because it takes 20-30 minutes to get there by bus and because the sand is so steep it takes a while to get back up once you have been down. We only managed to go down twice. The tour guides were lovely and very knowledgeable. The price of the tour was good but having to pay an extra free when we got there wasn’t great.

The beach itself on Tangalooma Island was lovely. That is also the only positive thing to say about this trip. We paid DKK 2,500 for this trip (2 pers.), which should include t/r to the island of Moreton Bay, a loan of kayaking, SUP board, snorkeling equipment for 3 hours, lunch per person about DKK 100 (not intended for both food and drink), feeding of wild dolphins, access to the VIP lounge, and access to hotel facilities such as pool, restaurants and bars. We could not get the early departure so we left Brisbane with pick up at 8:30 a.m. We were at the ferry stand at 9:00. The boat did not leave until 10:00, i.e. 1 hour of waiting time (wasted time) The boat sailed for about 5 quarters - 1.5 hours, so we arrived at half 12 hours, where we were to wait for a guide who was to tell about what was possible and at what times. At 12:00 this was done and we could start enjoying a lovely luxury and active day. First we would make use of the lounge, where it should be possible to change, bath and store his things. There was no dressing room, neither bathroom but 4 toilets and 20-25 closets (we were 3-4 companies who just arrived with the boat we came with and there had been one before us) We wanted to start with lunch. There was an Asian "finer" restaurant, which we opted out of because so much of our day had already passed. So we went to the main restaurant, where there was 45 minutes - 1 hour waiting time to get the food, i.e. before we could even get started with the activities of the day was about 13-13.30. Breakfast was like a beach bar - with plenty of fries, burgers and pizza. Not a pleasure. And I think of those who live there, it's their alternative every day! Would start by digesting the food, by lying by the pool and enjoying the sun. Well no - there were only 2 small pools attached to this huge resort and there were probably 20-25 chairs in total, which of course was taken. I walked into the front desk and told me that I was actually pretty unhappy that we arrived so late and there was no possibility to make use of the facilities that advertise with. To which the answer sounds - it is after the first to mill principle. That is, when you get between 12-13 it will never be an option when the facilities are so limited. We then had to go to the beach, which was not part of our plan. Then it was time to make use of the beach facilities, but as it was windy, it was not possible to SUP or sail in kayak, only snorkel and there was nothing to see unless you could sail in kayak to some shipwrecks. So even this activity was the money thrown right out into the air. On the beach owned by the Resort, there are no lifeguards nor weather flags whether it is recommended to stay inside or if it is OK to go out. I find this completely irresponsible, especially since there is no room at the pool. It also meant that we experienced a guest who contacted some guides because she had observed a boy floating out on a plate. Good luck for him! Then we came to what they themselves call a highlight. We could feed wild dolphins looking into the bay right after sunset. This is a large part of the price we had paid about 650 kroner. (2 pers.) We were in a massive queue - I counted there were more than 200 who had paid about DKK 325 per person. There were 4 dolphins in this evening (they thought it was because of the wind), so there was only 1 dolphin to feed per family. That is, a family of 4 paid 1,300 kroner for an event that takes up to 2 minutes, including going back and forth and waiting for the dolphin to arrive. It's simply peasant capture. So this is probably the trip on both of our Australian tours where I have felt so cheated and that I will never recommend to anyone.

This was a very fun day and we got to do everything listed in smaller groups. Just know that the transportation time is 50% of the day, but this isn’t their fault, just what it takes to get to/from the island. When you check in, try to make sure you get a PINK wrist band. That way you sand sled first when you’re still dry. From sledding, they provide a decent lunch of build your own wrap. Good options available for all cuisines. After lunch, if you have a PINK wristband, you’ll snorkel followed by kayak. Highly recommend this order!!! It was a great day and you’ll be tired on the ferry and bus ride back.
