Trekking in to the base camp of Kanchenjunga, world’s third highest peak, starts from Taplejung in East Nepal. The trek starting point is reached by Jeep ride from Bhadrapur airport after short flight from Kathamndu. The area is famous, not only for seeing and walking on the base and high passes of one of the biggest mountains on earth but also given the cultural insights of the local ethnic Limbu and Sherpa people. The area is also enriched by vast bio-diversity with many species of birds, and rare wildlives like the Red Panda and the Snow Leopard in the protected site of the Kanchenjunga Conservation area. It is one of the less trekked areas in the Himalaya thus one can have more peaceful moments while crossing the breathtaking high passes and beautiful trails. The trek is best suited to those who have deep interest in traveling in remote, rugged places that exposes one to both culture and natural beauties. The itinerary we have presented here is a plan only. It can be customized.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An authentic and deeply human experience with 3 Jewels Trek I’ve completed several high-altitude expeditions — three in Nepal (totaling 60 days), one in Pakistan, two in Peru, one in Iceland, and many summits above 6,000 m across the Americas — and the Kanchenjunga Circuit with 3 Jewels Trek stands out as one of the most complete, safe, and profoundly human experiences I’ve ever had. The Kanchenjunga region is unique: remote, less traveled, and truly authentic. It requires expert logistics, and 3 Jewels excels through its perfect organization, flexibility, personal care, and strong sense of safety. Its founder, Amber, a former monk, brings serenity and genuine human values that inspire the entire team. That human quality is what truly sets this agency apart. Special mention to Ngima Sherpa, my guide — young, well-trained (seven years of monastic study in India), attentive, kind, and always focused on our safety and well-being. A company with soul, combining professionalism, warmth, and the true spirit of the mountains. Highly recommended.

Three Jewels Adventure planned and coordinated a once in a lifetime private trekking experience in the Kanchenjunga area (both south viewpoint and north base camp). Amber and his team took care of all the details including airport pick up/transfers, Kathmandu accommodations and local tour to kick off arrival, internal flights, itinerary details, and an excellent local guide and porter. Our guide (Nursang) was friendly, knowledgeable, customer service oriented and ensured our safety and comfort. This trek was more difficult than we expected but worth the effort as there are very few other tourists who are willing to make the effort to fly internally, jeep ride and then hike over 167 miles (up/down/over/around) to see the entire circuit. The local cultural still exists and the area feels untapped by global tourism. We trekked through small villages, were welcomed into local’s homes and guest houses, lounged in their kitchens and dining areas with wood fired ovens, and ate food grown in their small plots. Most of accommodations are very basic with limited/no internet, electrical or shower access. The guide's morning wakeup call with coffee delivered to our room helped ease the long and arduous day of trekking ahead. We are so glad we did not join a large, organized group as we feel we would not have had the same flexibility or intimate interactions with the guide, porters and local people. Go now if you have the required fitness level and want to experience a Himalayan area that has not yet been fully discovered by the masses. We highly recommend the locally owned and operated Three Jewels Adventure, to coordinate this authentic trekking experience to see the 3rd highest mountain and surrounding area.
