5.00A nice little walk in Dharavi then in Dhobighat with Rakesh. I spent 3 hours discovering these two iconic but little known places of Mumbai. Rakesh was a friendly and very attentive guide.

5.00The tour of a slum does not sit easy with me for reasons that I am sure most sensitive travellers can relate. I could not have been more wrong. Our tour with Janna from CityPulse fulled me with inspiration and possibility. I was overwhelmed with admiration and hope by the tenacity, resilience and determination with which the recycling, refurbishing, sorting, creating and perfecting of leather, plastic, hides, fabrics and pottery by the fantastically skilled and competent workers, creators and gatherers. In this time of monopoly capital, of no competitive opportunities for level-entry entrepreneurs, of the stark monotony of the global market-village, the hard working people of Dharavi slum in Mumbai show us true grit and the power of the informal sector. Janna, our guide, in his unassuming and insightful approach, taught me more in the morning than I learnt in 6 years of tertiary education. Thank you.

5.00It was a truly unique experience, a part of India that you cannot pretend not to see. Life and work merged in one place, made of tunnel, markets and life, so much life, apparently chaotic but actually very organized. Our guide was special and guided us through this experience using the words of the heart. I highly recommend everyone to be accompanied by them because they help to see this reality from the right point of view. I sincerely thank my guide for the time spent together.
