What To Expect
We will nicely embark by boat ( about 35 minutes trip) to join my family’s village on a small and beautiful island on the peaceful river delta of Hoi An. Upon your arrival, you will be served a fresh and delicious fruit juice, a typical Vietnamese fruit-based drink. While you enjoy your tasty drink, It will be the opportunity to learn about the Vietnamese countryside life and meet Grandma. From here, we will go to my family’s home where you will begin your cooking lesson. Learn how the rice paper, used in the flavorful fried eggroll is prepared and how to prepare several typical succulent dishes of this authentic region: -Banh Xeo (small rice flour crepes) a specialty of Hoi An. -Grilled, marinated pork brochettes with a special sauce. -Green papaya salad -Fish prepared according to a local recipe. * Vegetarian menu on request: Banh Xeo, Eggplant grilled, Green papaya salad, Mushroom, and tofu clay pot. Once this tasty meal has been prepared, we will enjoy the meal in my grandmother’s garden. You will also be served pumpkin soup and “Xí Mà“ a delicious dessert (black sesame pudding). We will return to Hoi An by boat.

5.00Our day started & ended with a lovely boat ride to/from Grandma's Island. Then, after carrying our chairs from the boat to Grandma's, we enjoyed cooking from Grandma's cookbook 😀Delicious food & a nice day out!

5.00A great day with Thom. The boat ride, the island rural home setting, the set up, the recipes and the warm friendly Thom who is the granddaughter of Grandma. Great instruction, individual cooking stations, educational and cultural insights into authentic old fashion methods of preparing rice milk and rice paper . Charcoal fires for bbq and a comfortable , shaded garden setting. A perfect all round delivery. Thank you

5.00Stop looking at other cooking classes and book this one! We had such a wonderful day with Thom, a truly unique cooking experience. Taking the boat ride out to the island where Thom's family live was lovely - cool breeze on the river and plenty to look at as we passed fishing spots, farms and houses. A short walk between some local shrimp farming ponds and through the village to Thom's grandma's house where we learned about traditional rice milling methods and made our own "rice milk". We steamed our own rice paper, then used it with the pork we marinated and barbequed on charcoal burners. We made a divine green papaya salad, then banh xeo, and cooked claypot marinated tuna steaks which we sat and ate together in the house. Plenty of time to wander around and explore the area, and Thom was happy to answer all the questions we had about village life, sharing her stories with us. Thom as also amazing capturing photos throughout the day as we cooked! We absolutely loved our experience and couldn't recommend it more highly! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
