What To Expect
We will nicely embark by boat ( about 35 minutes trip) to join my family’s village on a small and beautiful island on the peaceful river delta of Hoi An. Upon your arrival, you will be served a fresh and delicious fruit juice, a typical Vietnamese fruit-based drink. While you enjoy your tasty drink, It will be the opportunity to learn about the Vietnamese countryside life and meet Grandma. From here, we will go to my family’s home where you will begin your cooking lesson. Learn how the rice paper, used in the flavorful fried eggroll is prepared and how to prepare several typical succulent dishes of this authentic region: -Banh Xeo (small rice flour crepes) a specialty of Hoi An. -Grilled, marinated pork brochettes with a special sauce. -Green papaya salad -Fish prepared according to a local recipe. * Vegetarian menu on request: Banh Xeo, Eggplant grilled, Green papaya salad, Mushroom, and tofu clay pot. Once this tasty meal has been prepared, we will enjoy the meal in my grandmother’s garden. You will also be served pumpkin soup and “Xí Mà“ a delicious dessert (black sesame pudding). We will return to Hoi An by boat.

5.00This experience was the best we did in Vietnam. Thom was knowledgeable and friendly, we visited her Grandmas island and saw a traditional village. The cooking space was clean and a lovely space. I have made the recipes again since coming home - it’s a lovely memory and we use the knowledge a lot at home. Thank you Thom and family 🙏🏻

5.00Truly an incredible experience not to be missed while you are visiting Hoi An or Danang. Thom, our tour guide, was a gracious host and great teacher. We learned a lot about Vietnam and got to see a slice of life in the countryside away from the city and tourists. Not to mention the food was delicious! This was the best activity we did while visiting.

5.00Absolutely fantastic way to spend a few hours. Thom was lovely and speaks brilliant English. Grandma doesn’t come out of the house these days as she’s 100! The food we made was delicious and the cookbook to take home is a lovely memento.

5.00This tour is authentic and you get a deeper insight into Vietnamese cuisine and culture than most other tours. We had a 3 week trip to Vietnam and our day at Grandma's Home Cooking was certainly one of the highlights. We did the Cooking tour and bike ride which adds another dimension to the day. Apart from surprising yourself at being able to cook mouthwatering food under Thom's instructions, you will appreciate more about Hoi An's environs and get to see things that are off the beaten track and meet interesting locals at work.
A fantastic experience - much more than just an amazing cooking class.

5.00This cooking class was such an enjoyable experience for everyone in our family from the non cooks through to the foodies. Thom was an excellent host, providing interesting information and demonstrations of historical as well as current cooking techniques, and keeping a watchful eye throughout the cooking lessons. The food was delicious and we had a fantastic and memorable day, book ended by a lovely boat ride on the river. We have no hesitation in recommending this tour to anyone visiting Hoi An.

5.00My Grandma's Cooking Class in Hoi An was definitely one of the high lights of our trip for the whole family. It was prepared so well and the food was amazing. The boat ride across to Grandma's Home was also a great way to see another aspect of Hoi An. I have all the recipes and hoping to try them for friends and family at home. 5.00A superb hands-on introduction to Vietnamese cooking; and an insight into rural life (on an island a 35 minute boat trip from Hoi An). Thom is an outstanding guide and teacher. We prepared and ate four dishes in a delightful rural environment. At €31 it is an absolute bargain. Highly recommended.

5.00Wonderful experience, the best activity I've done so far in Vietnam. Fresh market tour first, Thom introduced different food to us. Then boat trip to her Grandma's house where she and her family demonstrated old cooking ways. Then she talked and demonstrated us through making several food dishes, eating as we finished. Then finally ate last fish and dessert around the table. Wonderful adventure. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about Vietnamese food and culture. I liked how Thom's family were involved in giving us a high class adventure.

5.00Beautiful day out learning the traditional ways of preparing Vietnamese food. The experience is hosted by a gorgeous family and starts with a wooden boat ride out to their island. We then each prepared traditional dishes - including Miss 6 - and enjoyed these thoroughly. A huge thank you to Tom who was the perfect host!
