Caldarusani Monastery

One of the most important monuments of orthodox architecture, this monastery was build in 1638 by Matei Basarab, on a small piece of land that sits in the middle of the Caldarusani lake. In the old days, here was established a school of copyists that over the years brought a significant contribution to the creation of the Romanian language. In the nearby area, called Codrii Vlasiei (The Forests of Vlasia), Vlad Tepes was killed in the treacherous act of his boyars.

Very friendly and calm tour guide . Gave us ample time to explore the places and gave us history of the places . Also took us for a short stop at Lidl for a quick shop . I would highly recommend Marius

I had an excellent time. Marius was very punctual and informative. He made the trip really good fun and was so knowledgeable about all the stops as well as all my questions. I felt very well looked after and got to see some amazing sights

The monasteries were very beautiful and quiet. It was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Bucharest. The tide through some of the smaller towns and countryside was pleasant. My driver Marius was very solicitous, even arranging to drop off my coat (that I inadvertently left in his car) to my hotel. I would recommend, however, that TripAdvisor/Viator specify whether tours are smoking/nonsmoking for those visitors who are sensitive to smoke.

Our driver was very competent, informative and kind, looking after our every need. It was wonderful to see some of the Romanian countryside and to visit the spectacular monasteries. I would highly recommend this tour.

Marius was a fantastic tour guide! He is a wealth of knowledge and always had more background to share. He was a great driver, fun to talk to, and was kind to have water for us on a hot day. I’ve learned so much history on this tour. Highly recommend!

This was such a remarkable tour! Honestly, it was the best thing we did while here in Romania. Marius was such an amazing guide and so knowledgeable. Definitely recommend.
