We had a wonderful experience on the Napa Valley Wine Train! The entire trip was beautifully organized, and the scenery through Napa Valley was absolutely stunning. A special shout-out to Nick who made the journey even more enjoyable. He was engaging, entertaining, and kept everyone informed while creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere throughout the trip. This was a memorable experience from start to finish, and we would highly recommend the Napa Wine Train to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing way to enjoy Napa Valley.

So much fun! Met great people and tasted lots of wines from 4 different wineries. Tasting charges ranged from $50. To $35. But most places waived the tasting charge if you bought wine.

Paul, our driver was very pleasant and kind. He was very knowledgeable about the various wineries in the area that we visited. I would highly recommend taking the Napa Valley Wine Trolley tour on your first to Napa Valley.

Pleasant day of visiting several vineyards (with the driving done by your experienced tour guide). For us the trolley visited four vineyards, but sometimes it's just three I am told. We started and ended the (6.5 hour) tour on 1st Street adjacent to Oxbow Public Markets parking lot in downtown Napa. The narrated tour with first-hand experiences and facts about Napa Valley as told by our trolley driver between vineyard visits, and the talks by vineyard/winery folk about their grounds, the wine making process, etc. were both interesting and informative. Some highway driving in an open air trolley made for quite a loud, windy ride at times. There is limited seating within the enclosed part of the trolley. The separately priced tasting fees, at $40-$45 per person, at each vineyard, can add up, but a couple of vineyards waived their tasting fee if you buy a bottle, or two, of their wine that sum to equal (or more than) the tasting fee, which for me seemed a 'no brainer' since you can take the bottle for drinking during your stay in the area and/or travel home for the same or just a bit more money than the tasting fee. We bought some protective bottle 'skins' so we could pack a bottle or few in our checked hard-shell luggage for the flight home. We were told that select small batch wines or small vineyard wines were not be available at retail stores and can only be purchased at the vineyard or by joining the vineyard's mail-order "wine club." By the 3rd vineyard for my wife, and 4th for me, we had tasted a lot of wine (3 - 4 types at each), and so decided to sit out the last tastings. We had already made reservations over the next several days at other, individual vineyards in Napa & Sonoma that were recommended to us and turned out to be great experiences, and some real nice wines, so we wanted to save luggage space and budget for those too and maybe transporting another bottle home with us (which happily turned out to have the same deal = tasting fee waived with equal or greater $ spent on wine purchase). The Wine Trolley includes lunch, which we had at the second vineyard (Backstage Vineyard I believe) and it was quite nice, and was served with wine tastings (and water) of course. Lunch was in a pleasant, shaded area looking out at the vineyards! Overall a nice way for us to spend a first full day during the several day Napa Valley visit.

  • Enjoyed the journey.

It was enjoyable.I had nice day. I'm a non-drinker but I enjoyed the ride, the history of the valley and the visits to the winery. You don't have to drink wine to have a good time.

Expensive tastings, minimal information about the area, run down wineries and bad time management. What saved this event was the fun group of people and the conversations we had.

Our guide was just OK. Did not really do a lot of talking. Also, the first winery we went to we thought that the person doing the presentation was not that great not very friendly. Also, we did not know that they just automatically poured and charge you for the tasting. That should have been more explained. And we also asked if we could skip a tasting and a response was not very friendly.

Fun way to go wine tasting at several wineries without the stress of having to figure out transportation and deciding where to go! Since the tasting fees are not included and paid at/to each winery, you do have the option of not participating in the wine tasting ... great for if someone in your party is not into drinking or maybe just don't want to participate in 4 full wine tastings. Overall great experience!
