This tour is the perfect extension to our Classic City Tour and includes the southern parts of "Old Town" which are not visited on classic tours, and the castle. It's a delightful mix of history, legend and medieval tradition.
As usual, we meet in Preseren Square, from which we walk directly to the inner courtyard of Town Hall to hear fascinating stories of days gone by and the clowns that ran the show. We then continue down Old Town road, passing various points of interest on the way, before arriving at the Hercules Fountain in Old Town Square. From there we walk up Ljubljana's oldest road (16th century) and climb up to the Castle by foot (easy 12 minutes walk, no option for funicular from this side of the hill), with other points of interest and viewpoints on the way.
We finish off in the castle, where we visit the inner courtyard, various halls, dungeons, the chapel and the walls for the best views of town.

Town Hall (Magistrat)
We enter Ljubljana's Town Hall where we learn about the city history, visit artworks and examine old Sgraffito art techniques
Fish Square (Ribji trg)
We visit Ljublojan's oldest house and learn about medieval street markets. We also check out the wacky skulls artistic fountain.

5.00I happened to find out about the Ljublijana Free Walking Tour from the Ljublijana Tourist Office and registered on the Ljublijana Free Tour website. I attended the Old Town and Castle Group Tour on Friday 5th September solo for the afternoon session, which was hosted by a very dynamic, friendly and knowledgeable tour guide called Lucy. The group itself was approximately 12 - 15 people, which was just the right size. Everyone met outside the Pink church in the main central square. Lucy paced the tour well, stopping at various places of interest, explaining the historical significance of buildings and statues, in a fun way involving the tourists. The highlight of the tour was walking up to the castle and appreciating the views of the castle. I was very impressed with how much preparation and energy Lucy brought to the tour she kindly arranged, considering it was free of charge! Of course I paid a donation to her at the end of the tour, for the entertaining tour she organised, as did many of the other tourists. I definitely recommend attending the Ljubljana free tours. which is a fun way to interactively explore the city with other tourists and the tour guide, whether a tourist attends solo or with family friends. 10/10 !

5.00Our guide Lucy did a fantastic job! I signed up for this tour last minute after a morning one on the Classic Ljubljana walking tour. The morning one I booked on TripAdvisor and the guide was nice enough to point out that I had already paid (I still tipped)... but this tour I booked directly on the Free Tour website -- which I recommend. Easy to do and doesn't pre-commit you to the tour fees to TripAdvisor

5.00Our guide was Vojka. She is really very prepared on the medieval story. She could answer any questions and explained very clearly. Furthermore she has a great condition because she could climb up to the castle and talk at the same time. We highly recommend Vojka and the tour!!
