The stops mentioned under "Itinerary" are possible destinations of our tour. I am more than happy to compose an individual tour, which is based entirely on your preferences and wishes.
I was not only born in the famous historical city of Heidelberg and know the area extremely well, but also lived and worked in the US and hence speak fluent English. If you wish, I can help you with the organization of your trip ahead of time.

What To Expect
Heidelberg is only one of many possible destinations, but in case of a tour with "a friend in Heidelberg" almost a must. Heidelberg is my hometown and I not only know the city like the back of my hand but also its vicinity. The Heidelberg Castle and the world-famous historic old town are a must see. However, off the beaten track there is much more to discover.
Dilsberg Castle Fortress
The castle fortress of Dilsberg, one of many possible destinations on our journey, rises proudly above Neckargemünd on the mountain of the same name. The castle once belonged to the Counts Palatine of the Rhine and fulfilled a military function. Today, the stair tower in the ruins offers a fantastic view over the Neckar Valley and Odenwald.

5.00Manfred was an amazing guide! He contacted me almost immediately after booking and asked what our interests are and if we needed any accommodations. The day prior to our tour I asked if we could get coffee and a pastry while we discussed what we wanted to see. Manfred was very knowledgeable about the area. While walking through the Christmas market he stopped and bought us one of his favorite treats. We asked for a recommendation for a restaurant and he actually reached out and was able to get us a reservation at a very popular restaurant. We had a great day, and truly felt like we were with a friend.

Not only was there no dull moment… Manfred makes everything so easy and fun! Kids had fun interacting with Manfred and we loved listening to Manfred’s sharing about the places we went to and the interesting stories about Heidelberg Castle. 5.00While traveling on a Viking Christmas Markets Rhine River cruise, my daughters and I enjoyed an outstanding day with our new friend in Heidelberg, Manfred Pitz. From the moment I started corresponding online with Manfred, he was attentive, personable, and very interested in providing the kind of tour we desired. His tour included picking us up in the lobby of our ship, driving us to Heidelberg, giving us a tour in his car of the city, touring the Heidelberg castle and guiding us around the Christmas markets. It was everything we hoped for! He picked us up at 10:00 am in the morning and drove us to the destination of our Viking cruise ship in Speyer, Germany at 4:00 pm. He speaks excellent English as he has worked in the United States and also has extensive knowledge of Heidelberg. What impressed me the most was his enthusiasm. I’m sure he gives daily tours, but he made us feel like we were the most important people he had ever worked with and was so enthusiastic. We truly had a wonderful day and are grateful for our new friend in Heidelberg, Manfred Pitz!

5.00Our new friend in Heidelberg was a phenomenal guide from start to finish. My sister, my friend and I were cruising the Rhine River. We hoped for an individualized visit to Heidelberg and surrounding area so we chose Manfred Pitz, a resident of Heidelberg, to show us the home town he obviously loves. He picked us up where our river ship was docked and immediately took the time to listen to what we hoped to see and do. Thanks to him, we discovered the charming German village of Ladenburg, explored the breathtaking Heidelberg Castle, and enjoyed a delicious lunch together. He even told us about the dueling fraternities of Heidelberg! His warmth, knowledge, and genuine interest in making our day special made all the difference—by the end of the tour, he truly felt like our friend in Heidelberg. He was very friendly and committed to making our trip from Heidelberg to Frankfurt as comfortable as possible. We enjoyed a variety of stops, including Speyer, a wine tasting, a delicious German lunch, and a stop in Worms.

5.00My friends and I did a tour of Heidelberg castle with Manfred in November 2025. From the first email to reserve the tour, Manfred responded right away and customized our tour to our requests. We were on a Viking Rhine river cruise and wanted to do our own tour without the crowds of the ship. Manfred contacted the ship and verified our port arrival time and was prompt to pick us up. It was easy to communicate with him on Whats app. The van he had was comfortable and clean. He was very knowledgeable about Heidelberg and the castle and also provided us a tour of Speyer. We had a wonderful time with him and would highly recommend him as a tour guide.
