This tour is ideal to explore Lithuanian dense forests and pristine ice age lakes. It's a rare opportunity to escape the bustling city and feel the quietness of wild nature, at the same time learning about locals' way of living, their history and culture, as well as picking some edible herbs and berries.
You will also get a chance to learn about and help preparing a traditional lunch over a campfire.

What To Expect
A short 15 minute transfer will take you to a small village Puziniškis, known for its ancient oaks and linden trees, where the tour will start. Right from there we head off to Ladakalnis, the most spectacular place in Ignalina region. A local guide will lead you on a 10 kilometre hike through dense forests, along beautiful lakes and close to spongy swamps. Expect to hear about local flora and fauna, pick some edible herbs and berries (in summer) and possibly spot some wildlife. In winter, immerse in a snowy forest fairy tale, walk on frozen lakes and enjoy the silence of sleeping nature. Hearty delicious open fire lunch and herbal tea will be waiting for you in Ladakalnis, where you will have an opportunity to climb the hill and enjoy the stunning view of six lakes located between the forested areas. After lunch, visit an ancient village Ginučiai, which is famous for its old water-mill, the only one out of six watermills in the park that has preserved its authentic equipment. Take a final stretch to the point where you started and enjoy the whispering wind in the crowns of tree. The transfer will take you back to Ignalina where you can catch a return train or bus to Vilnius.

5.00Highlight of my trip by far! I had a guide who led me on an amazing hike - we tried a few of local Strawberries and blueberries. She gave me loads of information on the hike which was great to know and very personable - I had such a good time with her! We then had an amazing lunch made by the guys and I even got to rest up in a hammock. Worth every cent and so glad I went. Would highly recommend to anyone going to Vilnius/Lithuania- do bear in mind the hike location is 1 hr and 50 mins from Vilnius however a train goes there and it's only €6.70 each way- bargain!

5.00My wife and I had an amazing time trekking through the park with our guide Anton. We learned about local history and traditions and saw nature galore. It was a great alternative to spending time in Vilnius or Kaunas. The fresh air was fantastic and our outdoor lunch was delicious ...and well earned after a morning's hike.

5.00This is one of the best tours I’ve ever been on! We started off by climbing a tower for panoramic views of the National Park, then walked all around the lakes and through really pretty and remote villages. We then went to cook our lunch over a fire next to the lake outdoors. All the food was provided and absolutely delicious. The most relaxing experience and well worth travelling far for. I would also love to try the other tours with this company. Thank you!

5.00This experience is one of the highlights during my two-week long trip in Lithuania, I highly recommend it! I am a solo female traveller and had an exceptional time with Oksana and Ania in the Aukštaitija National Park, where we hiked 14km together in the forest. We foraged berries, mushrooms, admired the beautiful views, spotted wild animals, climbed trees and sipped tea on a hill. Oksana and Ania grew up playing in the forest and were so knowledgeable, full of joy and ease in the stunning landscape. With them, I had a glimpse of the kind of wonderful childhood one might have had if raised in nature. Oksana and Ania welcomed me with open arms right from the start and showed me how generous, kind, sparkling, authentic and warm Lithuanians are. They took excellent care of me in every thoughtful detail, spontaneous and genuine, simply from the heart. Through their actions, they are not only amazing ambassadors for LitWildTravel.com, but also for Lithuania. I highly recommend it! Thank you Oksana and Ania!!!

5.00We really loved our day out with Anton, hiking in the pretty forest, swimming at the mill and in the lake, and then dinner cooked over the fire. Would highly recommend but bring mosquito repellent!

5.00This was a great hike and overall wonderful experience. Anton was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the area. He grew up hiking these mountains and knows every aspect of the unexpectedly beautiful area. There were only two of us so we had a wonderful private hike at our own pace. The swim was very refreshing during a very hot hike. We hope to come back and do a multi day/multi sport trip with him. Highly recommended.

5.00It was such a great experience to disconnect for an entire day and spend it in the nature with a friend to guide you around. Anton knew his way around the forest, we took the most beautiful paths and he was very flexible to adapt to my rhythm and mood. Cooking the lunch in the nature, making the fire ourselves was one of the highlights of the trip. I recommend this tour to everyone! Thank you!
