It’s a long car trip but comfortable and air conditioned. Great to see the orangutans. We saw about 7 including a baby. Walk through an enclosure and view through the wire fencing

The orangutan sanctuary is a must do! The guide was well informed and passionate about the animals. Be warned, the drive from KL is long (nearly 3hours one way!) if you’re going to Penang it will be quicker to hire a driver and go from there.

We (family of 4) booked a trip through TripAdvisor to visit the recovery center. First of all: booking through TripAdvisor was very easy and we were well updated regularly. I also believe the price was competitive. We did not know what to expect from this trip and worried about the distance from KL to the center. True, the trip is long (2x 3-4 hours), but it is well worth it. The local tour operator and driver were very professional, well informed and the car was specious for 4 tall adults). Arriving at the ferry to the center, it looked a bit surreal: there is a large lakeside landing and infrastructure, but it was empty and there were almost no people. We took the ferry and once we arrived at the recovery center (group of around 10 persons), we got briefed by our tourguide. We walked in a cage tunnel complex (a reversed Zoo: the apes are free and we were in cages) to see the apes; we were allowed to help feeding them and got amazingly close by the orang utans. There are about 15 apes, including some cute young ones. Our tourguide explained what they do to return the apes back to the wild: most apes are abused animals, recovered from poachers or were used as pets. They all do this without any goverment funding and depend on private donations, struggling to get by. So we really recommend to go on this tour through TripAdvisor, if you are not afraid of a 3-4 hour trip (both ways): go there and donate to the Urang Utan recovery center. Also: on the way back to KL, you visit a nice Buddhist cave temple with huge Buddha's with a long climb to the top.

Our trip to Orang Utan island was really good, our driver Rajan was great. On the drive was grave us a lot of information about the history of Malaysia and what we were seeing on the way. He explained all about the palm and rubber trees and the different caves and temples. We were lucky enough to see 8 of the 16 orangutans on the island, we learned a lot about there habits and personalities. The Perak Cave Temple was really cool, lots of different paintings on the wall caves, and statues, the 450 stairs to the top was quite a workout but worth the view once you made it to the top. Overall real good trip.

Lovely trip. Well planned and arranged. We were picked up at our hotel and taken to Orangutan island and the Cave Temple and we enjoyed every minute of it. Kindly plan on weekdays and weekends have extremely heavy traffic.

We paid €175 to make 6 cars... with a very nice driver. To arrive at a reserve (If we can call it a reserve) or we make only 30 minutes of visit (instead of 3 hours as indicated in the description). We realize that the entrance is 40 RM (about 8€50). We see 5/6 monkeys (no more) that we bait with mangoes to do the show (poor animals) while we boast that it is a reserve to protect them. Then we stop at a temple (superb temple, really nothing to say) but absolutely free. And there again 3h car to get home!!! We realize that we paid 174€ to make the car!!!! A scam! I’m going to write a complaint email to TripAdvisor which is a long way from the years when their only concern was to guide tourists in their discovery process! SHAMEFUL!!

It was a great day out. A reasonably long drive at nearly four hours each way from The Federal in KL. The Oranga Tangs were great and was nice to here what the program is all about. It was shame our driver didn't speak much English but he certainly knew how to beat the traffic jams.
