This was one of the best tours I’ve ever been on and I’m tallking over 100. The guide Maria was informative and passionate about her subject as well as being delightful and upbeat. We spent time in the grove learning about Olive growing, then we went to a processing facility and ended up doing a tasting at a shop. I can’t imagine a more complete experience and we are now devotees of extra-virgin olive oil.! I highly recommend this tour to anyone who comes to Kalamata and is looking for an immersive experience since olive oil is really what this town is all about. Just be clear with Viator and the tour guide about transport to the venues.

The Biological Olive Grove Tour & Olive Oil Tasting with Lunch in Kalamata is a truly wonderful experience that unfolds in several engaging parts; from walking through the groves to discovering the production process. You get to learn everything about olives and olive oil in an authentic, hands-on way. The tasting itself is of course the highlight: rich, aromatic, and full of stories behind each flavor. Greeks and olive oil are inseparable, and this tour makes you understand exactly why. A perfect mix of culture, craftsmanship, and culinary delight.

What a wonderful time we had spending nearly half a day immersed in the world of olives and olive oil with Maria, a thoroughly delightful person and highly knowledgeable guide. The tour started in an organic olive grove where, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, we were introduced to the history and science of cultivating olives; we then went on to a processing facility where we saw the modern method of olive oil extraction, and finally we ended with a tasting of multiple varieties of olive oil hosted by an expert who explained the elements important in determining the grade of an olive oil. Maria’s enthusiastic and engaging manner throughout the day made us feel as if we were chatting with an old friend, and not surprisingly the conversations often detoured to favorite recipes and favorite memories of family meals in which olive oil always was a central element. We are already planning for a return tour during harvesting season.

A True Taste of Greece – Unforgettable Tour with Maria of Mama’s Flavours! If you’re visiting Kalamata and want to truly experience the heart and soul of Greek culture, book this tour with Maria of Mama’s Flavours immediately. It’s not just a food tour – it’s a rich, delicious journey through Kalamata’s history, flavors, and warm hospitality. From the very first moment, Maria made us feel like old friends. Her passion for Greek gastronomy, local traditions, and storytelling shines through every step of the way. You’re not just walking around tasting food—you’re being invited into the very essence of Messinian culture. We strolled through the charming streets of Kalamata, sampling everything from fresh-baked koulouri to local cheeses, hand-harvested olives, and sweet, sticky treats straight from family-run bakeries. The olive oil tasting was a revelation—Kelly & Maria guided us through the different textures and notes like a true olive oil sommelier. And the wine? Simply divine. Local varietals paired perfectly with each bite, each one with a story behind it. What made this tour truly special, though, was Maria herself. Her deep knowledge, joyful spirit, love and personal connections with local artisans made us feel like insiders. It felt intimate, authentic, and full of heart. This isn’t just a food tour—it’s a celebration of love in Kalamata, and Maria is the perfect guide. Come hungry, leave full—in every sense of the word! Five stars isn’t enough. Thank you, Maria! We’ll be dreaming of that olive oil for years to come.

We had a wonderful evening together with Maria, exploring the entire olive oil production cycle—from the olive grove all the way to the oil tasting. Maria’s fascinating personality and her profound knowledge of Greek history, culture, cuisine, and even agriculture made our visit not only exciting but also truly meaningful. I highly recommend Maria if you want to learn more about Greece, its ancient culture, and olive oil. And meeting Maria’s friends, olive oil specialists in Kalamata, was simply fantastic. We definitely recommend this activity!

Excellent!. Loved visiting the beautiful organic olive farm, hearing about how they grow olives naturally without chemicals, visiting the factory where the olives are pressed into oil and the oil tasting at the gorgeous olive oil shop in the centre of Kalamata. Thanks Maria for being such a knowledgeable, warm and welcoming tour guide.
