We offer a pottery workshop in Osaka with an English, Spanish and Catalan speaking potter (the explanation can also be done in Japanese). While we talk about Japanese gastronomy and culture, the visitors can experience the traditional way of making pottery in Japan.

Choose one of the following plans:

-set of sake (sake bottle and cup)

-a chawan (tea bowl)

-a sushi set (dish and chopsticks rest)

■Create a souvenir of your trip to Japan

■Enjoy ceramic learning with an instructor who has studied in Osaka and Barcelona.

■Enjoy a private class, exclusively for you.

■The price includes a small dish and a chopsticks rest, handmade for use with Japanese traditional design and materials. You can take it with you the day you come to the studio.

■Learn a traditional art while talking about Japanese culture.

The space is located in a house made of wood and earth built 100 years ago, so you can also see a typical Osaka house from before the Second World War.

What To Expect

In the workshop, we will made ceramic related to Japanese gastronomy with clay. You can choose between the following options: -sake set (small bottle and glass) -sushi set (sushi plate and chopstick holder) -chawan for tea - It takes about 1 month and a half to ship your pottery. (Shipping fee is not included) During the workshop, Anna, Ryo and our team will talk about Japanese culture. Participants will receive as a souvenir a small plate for sushi (decorated with traditional glazw) and a chopstick holder in the shape of a sakura flower made by Anna. If desired, the pieces made during the workshop can be sent to the participant's home (shipping costs are not included). The workshops are given in Spanish, Catalan or English. Unlike the other experiences related to ceramics, this is the only one that is held in Spanish or Catalan. The building is a century-old two-storey house in the south of Osaka. It is located next to a street lined with shops selling local food. The visit to the workshop is an immersion into the Japan of the Showa era. In this non-touristy area, the walk from the station to the studio shows a real Osaka that you won't find in the guidebooks.

  • A wonderful combination of beginner hands-on pottery with the historical and cultural context to go with it.

The operator Anna was incredibly friendly and personable, giving us helpful and clear instructions. It is clear to me that Anna is very knowledgeable in the field of Japanese pottery and pottery in general. She provided valuable information regarding the nuances of the variations in the shapes of the vessels we were forming with the clay - particularly around the functional purpose and cultural context. We were also given recommendations for things to do in Ōsaka and Tokyo. Overall, I had a great time participating in this workshop. Highly recommend - particularly if you’re after something a bit more relaxed and need a break from a busy travel itinerary.

This was a great experience. Both Anna & Ryo were such excellent hosts! My shoe bottom fell off & Ryo helped glue & tape the bottom back on! I initially attempted to meet them via taxi but it was an epic fail! Their location is completely inaccessible via taxi. Their meeting location made total sense! Anna was patient & a great teacher. It was a very memorable experience hand building a bowl! And even my 1st time!!!

It was a very chill experience. Ana was very patient and taught us not only the technique but the meaning of the ceramics we could make. Both me and my wife want to find a kiln around our home so we can continue making more ceramics!

Had a great time with Anna today, she was very patient and kind and had a great knowledge of history and traditions of Japanese pottery which made the experience even more meaningful. Lovely quiet part of Osaka, with Anna’s pieces being hard to resist. Love to support a local small business ❤️ highly recommend

My husband and I had a great evening with Anna making pottery. Neither of us have much experience with clay, but Anna made us feel like professionals and she was so pleasant to work with—it felt like we were friends by the end of the activity. He made the sushi plate and I made the sake set and we were elated to also learn a lot about the customs around these dishes from Anna, in addition to picking her brain for her experience with other aspects of Japan as well. We learned a lot and had a great time doing it! I’d recommend this activity to anyone going to Osaka who is interested in going beyond the touristy level of knowledge and getting their hands a little dirty in the process.

My girlfriend and I took on this experience with Anna as our teacher. We absolutely loved the experience with the clay but also Anna's knowledge and what we learnt about Japaneae culture and traditional pottery. This was my second time learning from Anna and i enjoyed to experience just as much as the first time. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves art or anyone who wants to learn some unique parts of Japanese culture. Anna is an amazing teacher with lovely chars and laughs along the way. Anna also recommended local coffee shops and eateries in the area which were very helpful 😀

I had a great time with Anna and learning about the hand building pottery process! It was definitely a very different process than wheel throwing. I recommend Anna and this class for beginners or experienced potters. Anna is very friendly and patient. Thank you Anna for giving me tips and information on where I can go see/buy traditional Japanese pottery.
