This experience invites guests to share a moment of Mauritian family life in a peaceful rural sugarcane village in the north of the island, near an old historic sugar mill. The workshop takes place in our traditional outdoor family kitchen beside a small farm, surrounded by nature and the rhythms of village life.
Together we prepare a full Mauritian meal using fresh, local and seasonal ingredients, sometimes cooking over a wood fire as many families still do. Guests participate in the cooking before we sit down to enjoy the dishes in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
Sometimes members of my family are present, adding to the warm and authentic spirit of sharing food, stories, and traditions around the table.

During this hands-on cooking experience, you’ll spend a relaxed morning discovering the flavors and traditions of Mauritian home cuisine in a small rural village in the north of the island. We begin by introducing the ingredients and dishes we will prepare together. You’ll learn about local spices, seasonal vegetables, and the cultural influences that shape Mauritian family cooking. Together, we prepare several traditional dishes step by step. Guests actively participate in chopping, grinding spices, mixing, and cooking. When weather allows, some of the dishes are prepared over a traditional wood fire in our outdoor family kitchen. The workshop takes place beside our small family farm, where chickens, ducks, and turkeys are part of the everyday rural atmosphere. Once the cooking is finished, we sit down together to enjoy the meal we have prepared. This shared moment is an opportunity to taste the dishes, exchange stories, and experience the warmth of Mauritian hospitality. More than a cooking class, this experience is about discovering Mauritian culture through food, learning traditional techniques, and sharing a meal in a relaxed and convivial setting.
