Freediving is about exploring the underwater world and becoming one with the ocean. If you’ve always wanted to spend more time in the underwater world then freediving is for you.

Taking the PADI Freediver course is a great first step toward discovering what freediving is all about. You will learn about the art of breath hold breathing and equalization techniques as well rescue and recovery.

What To Expect

The day begins with a bit of "classroom" time where i will instruct you on several techniques including breathing for freediving and equalisation techniques. After this we will jump in the water and get started! First we will do Static Freediving- see how long can you hold your breath? Next we will do a dynamic swim on breath hold- how far can I swim on breath hold? Lastly we will then do a deep dive! see how deep can I go? We also cover safety and the buddy system. There are requirements you need to reach on this course in order to get the certification - however we are much happier for you to have taken on all the information and be diving safety and enjoying it than you try to reach a depth requirement that you may not be ready for. This course runs over two days, however if you need to come back after the two days to repeat a section that can be arranged no problem.

I had wanted to try free diving and decided to go all the way for the certification - I found Hanna at Trident Freedivers Barbados through some friends on the island as well as a Google search. She was prompt in getting back to me and was flexible with scheduling to make sure I had time to complete the course. She was a fantastic instructor, very personable and informative, it made for a comfortable learning environment. When doing the in-water portion she was patient and made me feel at ease holding my breath for that long! It took me a few good trys to get there but she encouraged me, provided feedback along the way to help me and celebrated when we got there! Also, get the GoPro footage - it is A+++++, absolutely in love with it! Overall this was such an awesome experience and I can't thank Trident Freedivers enough for showing me how to be a cool mermaid!

I did the 2-day freediving course with Hanna at Trident Freedivers, and it’s clear why she’s the best on the island. Her knowledge, experience, and love of the ocean make it an incredible experience!! It’s not about competition or judgment—just a friendly, supportive atmosphere where you feel part of a community. Hanna truly goes above and beyond for her students. If you're in Barbados, I highly recommend diving with her!

Hannah represents her sport and passion the way everyone should. She knows what is required and has a deep understanding of how to operate in the safest fashion. If you have no free diving experience the 2 day program is the only way to go, don't let others fool you about this. There is far too much to absorb in one day to maximize your time spear fishing, having the extra day makes things much more rewarding. We successfully caught some Lion Fish (which we took back to our hotel and the chef made a great meal for us), we saw many types of species of fish, turtles, rays etc. And if you take Hannah's advise adds are that you will also! We plan on returning in the fall and spending another couple days in the water with Hannah and hope to be just as successful!

Hanna is incredible-- her love for freediving & being in the sea is contagious. I did the two day course with her and fell in love with it - she gave me the skills and confidence to go further with it than I ever could have imagined. She's a patient & very knowledgeable teacher - I felt very safe and in the best of hands. 10/10, would recommend to anyone.
