Lago Rosa

Lac Rose, known locally as Lac Retba, is one of Senegal's most extraordinary natural wonders. Its waters turn vivid shades of pink thanks to the action of microalgae of the genus Dunaliella salina — a phenomenon that reaches its peak splendour when the sun is at its zenith. With a salt concentration comparable to that of the Dead Sea, the lake has for decades been the legendary stage of the Dakar Rally and the livelihood of the récolteurs, the salt harvesters who work daily on its shores, their skin coated in shea butter to protect against the extreme salinity. A unique landscape combining natural beauty, living tradition and a history still in the making.

The Lompoul Desert is one of West Africa's best-kept secrets: an enclave of orange dunes and Saharan landscapes that appears, almost unexpectedly, just two hours from Dakar. With dunes reaching heights of over thirty metres, the area offers a genuinely Saharan experience without venturing deep into the Sahara. At sunset, the golden and reddish tones of the sand create a visual spectacle that is hard to forget, best enjoyed on foot or atop a camel. The night is spent at a camp of comfortable traditional tents, where a traditional dinner and the desert's star-filled sky complete a day of total immersion in the essence of the Senegalese Sahel.

Saint-Louis

On our return to Saint-Louis, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant selected by our guide, where we can savour Senegalese cuisine in an authentic setting. In the afternoon, we will embark on a guided tour of the historic centre of Saint-Louis, strolling past its faded ochre colonial facades, wrought-iron balconies and timeless streets. We will discover the iconic Faidherbe Bridge, the lively fishing neighbourhood of Guet N'Dar, and the essence of a city that blends the mark of its colonial past with the Wolof and Fulani culture of its present.

A visit here is a unique cultural experience that offers insight into the profound religious dimension that underpins Senegalese society. The highlight is the Grand Mosque of Touba, one of the largest on the African continent, its imposing minarets dominating the city skyline. Inside, we will admire the architectural richness of the complex and learn about the legacy of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, founder of Mouridism, whose presence is felt throughout the culture, art and everyday life of Senegal. Practical note: Touba is a holy city. Visitors are kindly requested to dress respectfully, covering shoulders and knees, and to remove footwear before entering the mosque

Arriving at sunset, with colourful pirogues rocking on the delta waters, offers a scene of great beauty that marks the beginning of one of the circuit's most special stages.

Here you will have the opportunity to discover the culture of the Serer people, one of Senegal's oldest ethnic groups, and learn about their traditions, way of life and picturesque waterside settlements. About village visits: In the communities we visit, it is customary to reciprocate a welcome with a small gift as a mark of respect and gratitude. Your guide will present the offering on behalf of the group, following the protocol and cultural codes of each community — a way of travelling with sensitivity and responsibility. Joal Fadiouth

We welcome you to one of the most singular corners of Senegal. Crossing the iconic wooden bridge that connects the mainland to the island, you will arrive in Fadiouth, a village literally built upon millions of bivalve shells accumulated over centuries. Its narrow streets, its houses, and even the ground beneath your feet are formed by this white, crunching blanket that gives the island a completely unique atmosphere. The most moving moment of the visit is the marine cemetery of Fadiouth, a place of serene and deeply symbolic beauty: here, Christians and Muslims rest side by side beneath a mantle of shells, in a living example of coexistence and tolerance that speaks volumes about the Senegalese soul. A stop that will leave no one indifferent.

After lunch, we will take you to discover one of the most impressive living beings you can imagine: the Sacred Baobab, the largest and oldest specimen in Senegal. With several centuries of history behind it, this ancient giant is not merely a tree — it is a place of worship, a symbol of ancestral Senegalese spirituality, and a meeting point between the world of the living and that of the ancestors. Standing before it, it is impossible not to feel the weight and majesty of time. An experience that goes far beyond simple nature observation.
