After almost a week of doing lots of exploring in George Town and surrounds Matahari Cycles 4 hour tour provided us with an excellent opportunity to see the other side of Penang Island. Princillia and SJ run a very professional tour with well serviced good bikes. The tour ride is flat along man-made irrigation canals, through an extensive Palm Tree plantation, passing a marina of local fishing boats, stopping in a local fishing village to try “local” coffee and treats and back through a beautiful rural landscape. Princillia’s knowledge of birds, plants and local life is extensively shared over the tour and our every need was met. A highly recommended tour!

Our family cycle trip with Matahari was great fun and very informative. We learnt about the wildlife and a lot about the plantations. Our stop to see a local house, have breakfast and visit a Chinese temple was very interesting. Thank you for a great tour.

A Wonderful Way to See the Penang Countryside Review: Wayne and I had such an enjoyable time on our bike trip through the beautiful Penang countryside with Matahari Bicycle Tours. The ride was perfectly paced, and it was a great mix of scenic views, local culture, and friendly people along the way. It’s always a pleasure to see the team again — they make every ride feel relaxed, safe, and fun. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience the real charm of Penang beyond the city life.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed cycling through Batik Palau countryside with Princilla last week. She took us through mangroves, and a fishing village (including a temple) during which she pointed out an eagle and various tropical plants. She also took many pictures of us along the way which she shared with us after the tour. Her partner, JC, gave us a tour of a local fishing village home and was very informative re the history/culture of the village. He also provided us a typical delicious Batik Palau breakfast. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Penang. If we visit again, we would register for their extended tour through durian farm(s).

Highly recommended cycling tour of Penang countryside. It is affordable and gives you another view of beautiful Penang island. All equipment including bikes and helmets were in best condition. They already labeled and adjusted the bikes to our height. The enjoyed the most attentive guide who shared her passion and knowledge of the area and its wildlife. The area is just beautiful so lush and green. We got to see eagles, monkeys, turtle and many types of birds. Do not miss this tour when in Penang.

We had a wonderful tour provided by Princilla and SJ - we were on the tour with fellow visitor Kenneth O and he wonderfully sums up the experience on his review. Like most people, we initially looked for tours in Penang and felt that they were the usual tourist type of thing - but then we discovered Matahari Cycle Tours. These guys do it properly and anyone reading this would be wise to take a look at what they offer, communicate with them directly to discover what they do and then book something with them. They are doing things how they should be done and the next time we are in Penang we are going to be using these guys a lot !! Thank you Princilla and SJ !!!!!!!

This tour is a relaxing, rural ride on the ‘less touristy’ side of Penang island. The winding paths, flora & fauna & overall early morning setting was stunning. The bikes are top quality and literally ride themselves :) Our guide Princilla was outstanding! She is an experienced cyclist and passionate local who shared an incredible amount of knowledge AND took amazing photos, all whilst in the saddle. The company owner (a lovely guy whose name I have forgotten, my apologies) shared cool stories from his childhood relating to all aspects of Malaysian and village culture. Pre-trip information was excellent… pro tip: wear clothing with deep pockets or a very small bum bag/fanny pack to store your phone if you’re worried about the ‘no bags’ instruction. Safety aspects were top notch. My Garmin clocked 15km of riding; if you want more I suggest one of the longer tours offered by this company. Our time went by so quickly, we could have spent all day riding around in the beautiful surroundings.

Eng Choon Wooi our tour guide was awesome!! We took the eight hour tour of Penang city and Penang island. He spoke the three languages of Malaysia. Eng was raised in Penang. We took us to where we wanted to tour including Penang Hill, Spice Garden, Butterfly Garden, Fruit Orchard Farm, Nutmeg farm, the best Batik clothing fabric store, the best white coffee shop, showed us Duran trees on the roadside, and many other sites. Eng picked us and dropped us off at our hotel. Eng was very personable and was a wealth of knowledge. He drove a new Toyota eight seater. This trip was in July of 2025. Because there was only two of us we had his undivided attention and focus. He was quite proud of Penang and his heritage. He had recommendations as to best restaurants and shopping. I would highly recommend this tour and Mr Eng Choon Wooi as the guide.

Very rewarding! The lady and gentleman who provide the tour are very passionate about what they show. They know a lot to tell and mountain biking is tackled seriously (good bikes and helmets, transport for stuff, water, etc). You will see parts of the island where you would never go yourself! We did it with children, very nice as a family activity.
